The esteemed Grammy-winning artist has unveiled her latest creation, the haircare line Cécred, as a tribute to the industry that has molded her into the renowned performer she is today. On Tuesday, the Grammy-decorated artist announced a groundbreaking partnership between her newly launched haircare brand, Cécred, and her charitable foundation, BeyGOOD. “Hairstylists hold immense power in shaping the confidence and identity of their clients,” reads a statement from BeyGOOD. “They create a sacred space where we can embrace our true selves and express our individuality through our hair. We are deeply honored to contribute to this remarkable community and help it grow and flourish.”

The funds will be distributed annually across scholarships and business grants for salons in five vibrant cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and New Jersey. The selection of these beauty schools was carefully made, taking into account their diverse and vibrant hairstylist communities, as announced on social media.

In an exclusive cover story interview with Essence, Beyoncé opened up about her haircare line and how her childhood experiences in her mother’s salon shaped her lifelong aspirations. “It was in that salon where my dreams of becoming a performer were kindled, inspired by one of my mother’s clients who was an opera singer,” she revealed to the magazine. “I vividly recall telling my mom that I wanted to be just like her client.”

She continued, “So much of my identity and character stems from that salon. It’s a place that evokes all my senses and holds beautiful memories of my upbringing. That’s my foundation — and as an artist, much of my bold experimentation with hair is influenced by art and sculptures, exploring creative braid techniques, discovering new styling methods, and preserving hair growth through protective styles and wigs, all while maintaining a sense of glamour and elegance.”

Beyoncé also shared insights into her decision to embrace a pixie haircut in 2013, emphasizing that it wasn’t just an aesthetic choice. As an artist, her hair had become a defining part of her identity, and she wanted to break free from that perception. “It was a profound emotional transformation and metamorphosis that I was undergoing,” she explained. “Cutting my hair was a rebellion against the societal expectations of who I should be. … It was a deliberate choice, and it was exactly what I needed to do. After that, I felt more empowered and bold. It was the first step in a series of audacious decisions that have shaped my life and career.”
