Actor Barry Keoghan is appealing to the public for respect towards him and his family. The Saltburn star took to X platform on Saturday to share a heartfelt message, ostensibly addressing the backlash he faced following reports of his breakup with singer Sabrina Carpenter. Though Keoghan didn't name Carpenter directly, rumors suggesting he had cheated on the "Espresso" crooner circulated wildly across social media after their split came to light.
"I can endure only so much," Keoghan penned in a screenshot of his social media post. "My name has been dragged through the digital mud in ways I usually refrain from addressing. However, I must now speak out because the boundaries have been breached too far and too often."
Keoghan, who hinted at having "deleted" his Instagram account in recent days, described the messages he received as "absolute fabrications, venomous hatred, and revolting remarks about my appearance, character, parenting abilities, and every conceivable inhumane aspect." He further lamented, "My reputation and all that I've strived for and stand by are being tarnished. They even drag my childhood, portraying me as a troubled youth, and involve my beloved mother in this mess."
The actor claimed that individuals had audaciously knocked on his grandmother's door and stationed themselves outside the home of his 2-year-old son, Brando, whom he shares with his ex-partner Alyson Sandro. "This," he wrote, "is undeniably crossing a line."
"Every day, I push myself to new limits to be the healthiest and strongest person for my son," Keoghan emphasized, referencing his role in Eternals. "I aspire to offer him endless opportunities to learn, make mistakes, and grow. I want him to admire his father, trust me fully, and know that I'll always have his back, come rain or shine. Bear in mind, he will eventually read all this about his dad. Please, let's treat each other with respect."
Keoghan and Carpenter embarked on their romantic journey in 2023, making a stylish debut together at the Met Gala in May. The duo also featured in Carpenter's music video for "Please, Please, Please" in June. During an interview on The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham on SiriusXM Radio in November, the Irish star praised his then-girlfriend effusively, stating, "I'm in awe of her dedication and commitment. Her vision and standards are inspiring, especially after working on her music video. She knows exactly what she wants."
Neither Keoghan nor Carpenter has publicly commented on their breakup.
