"The essence of maturing, as highlighted in this film, lies in being one's true self," remarked the renowned British actor, Sir Ian McKellen, regarding 'Dragfox.' He joins the esteemed 'RuPaul's Drag Race U.K.' star Divina de Campo to co-star in the forthcoming stop-motion animated gem. McKellen, currently treading the boards in a theatrical rendition of 'Henry IV, Parts One and Two' in London's West End, will lend his voice to the charming character of Ginger Snap the Fox. Meanwhile, De Campo, whose actual name is Owen Farrow, will bring her vocal prowess to the drag musical sequences.

At the heart of this short film stands a young, transgender protagonist named Sam, voiced by the budding talent Aidan Gale. As Sam grapples with their identity, they encounter a charming neighborhood fox. This unlikely pair embarks on a magical musical odyssey, discovering unexpected similarities and learning to cherish the beauty of their differences.

McKellan, who publicly declared his homosexuality in 1988, reflected on how the film resonates with his personal journey. "When I was a child growing up in South Lancashire, post-war, our minds were occupied with various concerns. No one had the luxury to ponder what it meant to be a little gay boy in an era where that term was barely recognized." He continued, "We were 'queers.' We were viewed through the lens of others. But the film reminds us that growing up is about being true to oneself, not in a selfish manner, but in a way that affirms life. I lacked that understanding, much like what trans individuals might experience today. Often, the most effective way to convey a message is not through speeches or books, but by making people smile, guiding them, and reassuring them that there's nothing to fear. This film accomplishes that precisely."

De Campo, who emerged as a finalist in the inaugural season of 'RuPaul's Drag Race U.K.,' enthused, "Being a part of 'Dragfox' is a dream realized. I share the screen with a veritable hero and icon. More profoundly, this film is not just a celebration of identity and diversity; it's a beacon of hope for anyone seeking their place in the world." She added, "For a transgender youth, seeing oneself reflected in film or television is a transformative moment. The story of Sam and Ginger Snap reminds us all that our uniqueness is our greatest strength, and love and acceptance can be found in the most unexpected of places."

'Dragfox' is a stop-motion animated short directed by Lisa Ott and produced by Owen Thomas. The filmmakers underscored the significance of highlighting a young transgender protagonist, saying, "We believe it's crucial to celebrate Sam and reflect to the world that by truly listening to one another, we can make the world a little less daunting for them. And who better to convey this message than the captivating and inherently kind Sir Ian McKellen?" The film's soundtrack is a masterpiece composed by The London Gay Big Band, a jazz ensemble comprising members of the LGBTQ+ community.
