According to Deadline's coverage at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic, Francine Maisler, the casting director for "Joker: Folie á Deux," revealed her insights on Gaga's portrayal and her overwhelming admiration for her performance. "She's phenomenal in it, folks. She'll leave you in awe. It wasn't my suggestion to cast Lady Gaga. It originated from Todd Phillips before me," Maisler confessed. "But let me tell you, she's truly astonishing—and brilliant. Watching her, I was taken aback. We all knew her prowess in 'A Star is Born,' but I thought, 'That's just her comfort zone.' Something she could handle with ease and authenticity. But this... She's outstanding. Joaquin's performance is breathtaking, yet Gaga holds her own, staying grounded and real—not overshadowed by the magnitude of the role or the performance—proving her exceptional talent."
