On Monday morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed a groundbreaking decision: Conan O'Brien will return to helm the Oscar ceremonies next year, marking one of the earliest reappointments for an Oscar host in recent memory. O'Brien's stint as the master of ceremonies for the 97th Academy Awards garnered him accolades galore, contributing to a five-year ratings peak for ABC this month. It was a landmark occasion for him, as he took the helm of the prestigious event for the first time.

In a whimsical statement, O'Brien quipped, "The sole impetus behind my decision to host the Oscars again is my earnest desire to witness Adrien Brody conclude his speech," referencing Brody's memorable five-minute acceptance speech after clinching the Best Actor Oscar.

Joining O'Brien in his encore performance are the show's producers, Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney, who will also be returning for their second consecutive year. Meanwhile, the ceremony's executive producers, Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, will embark on their third consecutive journey, ensuring a seamless continuation of the event's grandeur. The eagerly anticipated night will unfold on March 15, 2026.

Hosting the Oscar telecast is often seen as a thankless task, as comedian Chevy Chase aptly described it as "the most thankless job in the world." Hosts seldom receive accolades when the evening sails smoothly but are swiftly scapegoated when hitches arise.

In recent years, the academy has endeavored to secure its hosts early, albeit announcing its most recent appointments only in November preceding the March telecast. Jimmy Kimmel inked his deal for a fourth and final turn in November 2023, while O'Brien was confirmed in November 2024.

"Conan was the epitome of a perfect host, adeptly steering us through the evening with a blend of humor, warmth, and reverence,"Bill Kramer, the academy's chief executive, and Janet Yang, its president, gushed in a joint statement.
