As the cameras are poised to roll this week on the second season of "Daredevil: Born Again," with a "Punisher" special also in the pipeline, Marvel's commitment to its street-level narratives shines brightly. Despite whispers hinting at potential appearances by Daredevil and Kingpin in "Spider-Man 4," the leading lights of "Born Again" have categorically denied their involvement in Sony's forthcoming film.
During a recent chat with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, Adam Barnhardt of "Inks and Ideas" cleverly worked in a query about their rumored cameos in "Spider-Man 4." Intriguingly, D’Onofrio offered a candid response, albeit tinged with a hint of playfulness.
"For your sake, we're not," quipped D’Onofrio. "You can pose that question because, as far as we know, we're not part of 'Spider-Man 4.' Or, at least, no one has briefed me about it yet."
Granted, actors have fibbed about their Marvel appearances before – it's far from uncommon. However, D’Onofrio's tone was remarkably definitive. While he left a slight loophole by acknowledging that he hadn't been informed of his inclusion in "Spider-Man 4," it stands to reason that with the film set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, Sony and Marvel would have already locked down their cast, especially for a potentially pivotal villain like Kingpin.
Considering the box office receipts of "Captain America: Brave New World" and "The Marvels," it's evident that crafting movies centered around TV show characters and events isn't always a guaranteed success. It might be prudent for Marvel to keep its films and TV shows distinct, only merging TV characters for significant crossovers.
This leaves us pondering: what adventures await Peter Parker in "Spider-Man 4"?
