Ellen DeGeneres and her spouse, Portia de Rossi, have embarked on a new chapter in their lives by relocating to the tranquil countryside of England. They have decided to place their opulent Montecito estate on the market, signaling an intent to sever ties with the United States, a move reportedly spurred by the election of Donald Trump, as confided to a close confidant and shared with TheWrap. While the incoming Republican administration served as the ostensible impetus, a desire for a fresh start certainly didn't detract from their resolve. Recently, DeGeneres had been candid about her "expulsion from showbiz" following allegations of a hostile work environment on her syndicated "Ellen" show in 2022.
According to the insider, DeGeneres has already settled into the picturesque Cotswolds, a serene rural retreat in south-central England. Meanwhile, her luxurious Montecito mansion, nestled about 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, is either currently listed discreetly or poised for an imminent market debut. A representative from Riskin Partners, the prestigious real estate firm handling her properties, did not immediately respond to inquiries on Wednesday.
DeGeneres acquired the expansive Montecito property in 2019, making it her and de Rossi's primary abode. The fate of her other Southern California holdings remains uncertain. A former publicist for DeGeneres, who has ceased representation since the comedian's comedy special and tour concluded, declined further comment.
In her recently released Netflix stand-up show titled "Four Your Approval," DeGeneres documented her post-"Ellen" endeavors, none of which ventured into the realm of showbiz. "I took up gardening," she revealed. "I even got chickens. Let's see, what else… Oh yes, I got booted out of show business… The 'be kind' gal wasn't so kind, that's what they said." She then pondered aloud about setting different expectations. "If I had ended my show by saying, 'Go screw yourselves,' people might have been pleasantly surprised to discover I'm kind," she joked, painting a vivid picture of her musings.
