It was a harrowing experience for Mikkey Dee, a 61-year-old veteran of Motorhead. On Thursday, January 2nd, he opened up about his arduous battle with sepsis, a dire condition where the body's response to infection goes critically awry, according to the Mayo Clinic. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Dee began by acknowledging, "A brief note on my journey of the past three weeks: Firstly, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the warm Christmas and New Year wishes that I, unfortunately, couldn't reply to as I usually do every year."

He went on to share, "This festive season found me hospitalized, combating a grave blood infection known as sepsis. After enduring three interminable and tormented weeks of confinement, I have finally reclaimed the sanctuary of my home, where I now find myself engrossed in an arduous and relentless struggle against this sinister bacterium. I am incredibly thankful for the exceptional care I received at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in my hometown, Gothenburg."

Dee further conveyed his profound appreciation for "every doctor and nurse who provided me with impeccable care." He wrote, "After enduring several surgeries, I've returned home, with my health indicators finally trending in the right direction. However, a lengthy road of recovery and rehabilitation still lies ahead."

He added with determination, "I'm putting in every ounce of effort to reclaim my place behind the drums for our Residency, kicking off in Las Vegas on February 27th. We have a monumental year ahead in 2025, celebrating Scorpions' 60th anniversary and embarking on numerous thrilling gigs across the globe."

Concluding his post, Dee wished everyone, "A magnificent 2025 filled with robust health and an abundance of Rock n' Roll!"

Last month, while speaking to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Dee delved deeper into his sepsis ordeal, revealing that it all began with a sprained foot. "My ankle swelled up tremendously, taking on a bizarre shape and resembling an overcooked ham," he recounted, as translated by Loudwire. "I fell gravely ill and had to be rushed to Sahlgrenska by ambulance. There, they discovered alarmingly high readings, making me a top priority."

Dee continued, "It was immediate surgery, the first of three. They excised the necrotic, infected, and heavily infested tissue. It was a treacherous path I was treading… Another day, and I might have been drumming alongside Lemmy [Kilmister of Motorhead] in heaven. I can assure you of that."
