However, upon returning home, the Queen reluctantly bowed out of her official royal commitments, adhering to the advice of her medical team.
Buckingham Palace issued a statement concerning Camilla's health via the BBC, stating, "Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection and has been advised by her doctors to take a brief period of rest." The statement further conveyed, "Regrettably, Her Majesty has had to cancel her engagements for this week, but she harbors the earnest hope of recovering in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as scheduled."
In light of the Queen's absence, the Duchess of Gloucester, Birgitte, who hails from Denmark and is married to Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, the Duke of Gloucester, will step into Camilla's shoes to open the annual Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, November 7. As an active member of the Royal Family, the Duchess is no stranger to representing her relatives at high-profile events.
According to the BBC, the Queen's illness is hopefully just "a relatively minor ailment... possibly contracted during her extensive travels." Besides traversing long distances to Australia and Samoa, it is also reported that the Queen visited India to break up the monotony of her long flights.
The Queen is optimistically looking forward to resuming her royal duties this weekend, with a bustling schedule that includes Saturday's Festival of Remembrance concert at the Royal Albert Hall, followed by the annual service held at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday.
Addressing Camilla's absence from certain events, Buckingham Palace, through GB News, expressed, "She extends her sincere apologies to all those who may have been inconvenienced or disappointed by this turn of events."
