Elsewhere, Carlos is still grappling with the harrowing revelations about Campbell. Who could blame him for feeling this way? Determined to uncover more, Carlos seeks out Bridges and confesses to having delved deeper into the cases of confidential informants (CIs) who perished under the Rangers' protection. Bridges, though skeptical, agrees to verify if Campbell accessed the files related to these deceased CIs, even those he wasn't directly investigating.

Concurrently, TK and Nancy accompany Tommy to her initial chemotherapy session. TK shares his intentions to adopt Jonah with them, mentioning Carlos' reluctance. He underscores that if Carlos isn't ready to embrace fatherhood, he'll prioritize his brother.

As the day trudges on, Campbell asks Carlos to cover for him while he attends to a personal matter. Carlos, struggling to maintain composure, complies. Meanwhile, Bridges calls Carlos with disturbing news: Campbell accessed protected files without authorization. Carlos is poised to confront Campbell, demanding answers for his father's death.

However, Bridges urges patience, insisting they wait for a warrant. Once they obtain it, they storm Campbell's house, catching him amidst his son's birthday celebration. They request a private conversation, informing him of his impending arrest. Campbell, feigning innocence, requests a moment to wish his son a happy birthday, only to seize the chance to flee through a window. Ultimately, Carlos and Bridges bring in Campbell's wife for questioning.

Meanwhile, Owen sits down to dinner with Krista, who intensifies her plea for him to return to New York. She passionately urges him to help keep Station 252 afloat, sharing heartfelt stories of how many of the late firefighters' children have followed in their footsteps. Owen requests more time to ponder, highlighting his deep ties to Austin, especially his bond with TK.

Owen returns to the station, seeking solace in Judd's presence. Judd, beaming with genuine happiness for his friend, urges Owen to consider embracing the opportunity in New York. He proposes a celebratory drink, envisioning it as a chance to devise a strategy for Owen to share his decision with the team. Later that evening, over drinks, Owen reveals an unexpected twist: he believes Judd should succeed him as Captain should he accept the New York position.

Meanwhile, at the station, Ashley, Campbell's wife, steadfastly refuses to cooperate with the authorities. Police have discovered a gun and a substantial amount of money in Campbell's safe, and ballistic tests are underway to determine if the weapon matches the one used in Senior Reyes's murder. Ashley clings to the belief that this entire ordeal is a colossal misunderstanding, insisting on her husband's innocence.

That fateful night, an intruder alert rings out. A man matching Campbell's description attacks a household, stabbing the homeowner before fleeing with money and firearms from their safe. Upon hearing this news, Ashley confides in Bridges and Carlos, revealing that her husband intends to seek refuge at an old friend's house in Mexico.

Elsewhere, Owen finds himself escorting a visibly intoxicated Judd home, appalled by the dilapidated state of his friend's abode. Judd, though reluctant to admit it, is clearly unraveling without his wife by his side, indulging in nightly binges that leave him hungover at work. Owen stays behind to tidy up, engaging Judd in a heart-to-heart the following morning. In a heartfelt decision, Owen informs Judd that he has decided against the New York job, choosing to stand by his friend during this tumultuous time. He emphasizes that losing a promotion pales in comparison to losing a best friend.

Turning our attention to Carlos and his team, they gear up to hunt down Campbell. Spotting him near the Mexican border, the chase ensues. Campbell, a seasoned individual, leverages his strategic position to his advantage. Carlos and Bridges corner him against jagged rocks, with Campbell retaliating by firing at Bridges. Reinforcements arrive, affording Carlos and Bridges cover to advance cautiously towards Campbell. Carlos gets a clear shot but hesitates, seeking answers to long-unanswered questions. He notices that despite being wounded, Campbell refrains from returning fire.

Amid Bridges's babble, Carlos's suspicions peak. He confronts Bridges point-blank, inquiring if he too had accessed those confidential files. Bridges, realizing his mistake, shoots Carlos in a chilling revelation. He confesses to murdering Senior Reyes and, even more shockingly, admits to using the same gun on Carlos. Bridges's sinister plan was to frame Campbell for both Carlos's and his father's deaths. Just as he prepares to execute Carlos, Campbell emerges from behind, gunning down Bridges in a dramatic turn of events. Thank heavens for small miracles!

At the hospital's serene yet tense atmosphere, Carlos utters a heartfelt apology to Campbell, who generously offers his forgiveness, though his wife's demeanor remains less forgiving. Carlos further updates Campbell on the positive news, revealing that the stabbed homeowner is now out of harm's way. Miraculously, both Carlos and Campbell harbor hope for a full recovery from their gunshot injuries.

As the episode draws to a close, Carlos stands at his father's graveside, offering a poignant tribute. His husband, a silent observer from a distance, watches on. Carlos confesses his discontent with the Rangers' hush-hush approach to Bridges' betrayal, yet he has unearthed the answers he sought. His heart aches with a profound longing for his late father, whose absence leaves a void that can never be filled. In a moment of raw emotion, Carlos breaks down, reminiscing about the exemplary man his father was. He concludes his heartfelt speech with a solemn promise to emulate his father's virtues and be a loving father himself. With renewed determination, Carlos resolves to tell TK that he is now ready to adopt Jonah and embrace the role of a father with open arms.
