The fourth episode of Season 8 of "9-1-1" kicks off with Gerrard and Buck engaging in a heartfelt bonding session over a game of gold. Gerrard confides in Buck, revealing his belief that Bobby pampered the 118 team excessively. He then places Buck in a dilemma, asking for his assistance in deciding whom to terminate amidst the city's budget crunch. Buck is taken aback and feels frustrated by the request.
Elsewhere, Bobby and Athena embark on a house hunt, but Athena finds fault in every option presented. She later confesses to Bobby her desire to rebuild their old home, excitedly instructing Mike to send over the house plans. Bobby, however, is less enthusiastic about the idea, as expected.
Meanwhile, Hen's anxiety spikes when Councilwoman Olivia announces her intention to run for mayor in the impending elections. Olivia launches her campaign with a pledge to make public service personnel accountable for their actions in the field, teaming up with a program to support her mission. To everyone's surprise, Gerrard reveals that the 118 has been selected to pilot a new initiative, requiring them to wear body cams while on duty.
As the day progresses, the team rushes to the scene to assist a male cheerleader, Wes, who has suffered a severe open-book fracture. Despite his critical condition, Wes begs his mother not to contact his absent father. This situation resonates deeply with Eddie, who is grappling with the absence of his own son. Eddie finds it hard to fathom why Wes's father, Mike, refuses to support his son, believing him to be weak for choosing to be a male cheerleader. After a heart-to-heart with Bobby, Eddie visits Mike's garage, attempting to persuade him to be present for Wes.
The following day, Hen and Karen attend a hearing to request the reinstatement of their foster license. Despite Hen's detailed explanation of their innocence and the councilwoman's apparent vendetta, the judge denies their request, ordering no contact between them and the child in question. Devastated, Hen and Karen reach out to Maddie, who assures them she will care for the child until they find a solution.
As tensions escalate further, Hen visits Olivia, imploring her to cease exploiting the child as a tool of torment. She offers a heartfelt apology for her past actions concerning Olivia's son, but Olivia remains steadfast in her refusal to grant forgiveness. In a moment of weakness, Olivia inadvertently reveals that she was the mastermind behind sending Gerard to Station 118, ultimately leading to Bobby's loss of his home. After a period of reflection, Hen decides to confide in Bobby about the unfolding drama. Together, they devise a strategy to confront Olivia.
Bobby's plate is overflowing with responsibilities. Buck grumbles about Gerrard's demand to pick someone for termination, while Eddie expresses his longing for his son, Mike, and mentions Wes. Chimney, on the other hand, believes Gerrard is driven by an inflated ego. In a separate incident, a doctor alerts the police, suspecting one of his patients of deceit. The patient claims to have been attacked by his pit bull, but it transpires that he harbors a pet tiger in his apartment. The landlord learns this the hard way when she visits to inquire about overdue rent, resulting in a tiger attack. The 118 team swiftly arrives to rescue her.
After their heart-to-heart, Bobby invites Gerrard to the filming set, painting a rosy picture of the lifestyle. He reveals to Gerrard that Olivia is merely using him to settle a grudge against Hen. Gerrard, whose ego cannot fathom being deceived, confronts Olivia. She asserts they are allies, sharing a mutual hatred for Hen. Gerrard concurs and proposes that Olivia advocate for the closure of Station 118 to cut city expenses. In exchange, he seeks Olivia's promise to appoint him as fire chief once she becomes mayor. Olivia, delighted, boasts about how she manipulated a judge's friendship to deprive Hen of Mara. They conclude that targeting Station 118 is the surest way to inflict pain on Hen.
During the subsequent public council meeting, Olivia pushes for the shutdown of Station 118. Hen rises to the occasion, defending her team passionately and exposing Olivia's abuse of power using footage from Gerrard's body cam. Olivia attempts to wriggle free from the tight spot but fails miserably.
The episode concludes on a positive note: Mara returns to Hen and Karen's home, Bobby rejoins the 118 team, Mike visits his recovering brother Wes, and Gerrard finds work at the film set. Olivia withdraws from the mayoral race, while Athena agrees to rebuild a home with Bobby's assistance, forgoing Mike's help.
