Episode 6 of "Before" unfolds with Eli addressing the board, detailing the peculiar circumstances surrounding Noah. He asserts that by indulging Noah's delusion—a drastic step that involved carving into the boy's forehead—he drew upon a clinically validated method that has historically yielded positive outcomes, rejuvenating the psyches of select patients. However, this unconventional approach also stirs up concerns about legal accountability, threatening the possibility of a costly lawsuit.

Before – Season 1 Episode 6 1

Eli finds himself mired in a turbulent sea of his own struggles, tormented by visions and haunted by echoing voices. With Noah momentarily stabilized, the prudent course of action seems to be Eli's removal from the scenario, recommending a temporary exile to his home until the storm passes.

Yet, Noah's bond with Denise appears to be fraying, exacerbated by the medical team's helplessness in finding a viable solution. They contemplate transferring Noah to a specialized care facility, aiming to provide him with the best possible care. Nonetheless, the individual who holds the key to unlocking this mystery remains Eli.

Back at his foster home, Noah's visions persist, intensifying as he perceives a swarm of wasps covering Denise's face—a harrowing spectacle that prompts him to scream in terror and unintentionally push her away. Despite this harrowing encounter, Noah remains engrossed in his sketching, so absorbed that even Denise's attempt to dismiss the incident as a mere "slip and fall" fails to deter him. His concentration is unwavering, to the point where a single tear spills onto the paper, freezes in a moment of poignant introspection.

Meanwhile, Eli makes his way back home and discovers Sue Ann in the thick of preparing his house for the stage-in. She even broaches the idea of conducting a psychic cleanse, though Eli dismisses it with a sneer. He firmly denies her access to the downstairs office and eventually, in a fit of anger, orders her to leave.

Determined to unravel the mystery unfolding around him, Eli continues to sift through the audio logs. Recall the Dutch language? It's a language Eli has crossed paths with before.

Flashbacks transport us to the moment Eli first met Lynn, amidst the chaos of a hysterical Benjamin being brought into the clinic, muttering in Dutch. Lynn explains they were on a trip together, with Benjamin insistent on capturing a farmhouse with his camera. However, his wild visions had plagued him for some time, leading to his eventual arrival at the clinic. Eli vows to take care of Benjamin and reassures Lynn, unwittingly embarking on a shared journey. Lynn, fueled by the belief imparted by Barb, saw their meeting as fate, destiny binding them together.

A message from Cleo brings fresh insights into Eli's investigation. She's arrived with Benjamin's hospital records from 1977, a pivotal piece of the puzzle. Eli realizes he must decipher the connection between Benjamin and himself, a link that could potentially blow the case open. His first stop? Benjamin's brother. The brother reveals Benjamin had no history of speaking Dutch, hinting that the clue might actually lie in Benjamin's necklace—a duplicate of which his brother wears. The plot deepens, each revelation adding layers of complexity.

Denise, rattled and unsettled, shows up at Eli's place, her shock evident as she takes in the wall adorned with photographs. Eli, meanwhile, makes a critical realization: there may indeed be a profound connection between Benjamin and Noah. The pattern formed on Benjamin's chest after Eli performed CPR, inadvertently breaking his ribs, mirrors the one currently adorning Noah's body, a fact Eli confirms that very night.
