Black Out – K-drama Episode 2 1

Elsewhere, Jeong-woo's heart heavy with the weight of a painful conversation with his mother, retreats to his former bedroom, seeking solace in memories past. Concurrently, Geum-hee's world crumbles as she relives a cherished conversation with her dearly departed husband, Chang-soo, vowing to stay put despite Jeong-woo's decade-long sentence.

Dawn breaks, and Su-oh delivers a painting of the forsaken warehouse, inadvertently guiding Jeong-woo towards a fateful encounter. Meanwhile, Geum-hee, on her way home, stops to acquire a new shirt, unaware of the shadows that lurk behind her. As she crosses the overpass, a sinister figure emerges, shattering her world with a push that sends her plummeting onto a passing vehicle, igniting chaos on the bustling street.

The police sirens wail, and Geum-hee is rushed to the hospital, her fate hanging in the balance. Hee-do assigns Sang-cheol and Byeon-moo to unravel the mystery, while Min-soo, stunned by the sight of Geum-hee in the ER, frantically tries to reach Jeong-woo. His calls go unanswered, prompting him to seek Na-kyeom, sharing the devastating news of Jeong-woo's mother's accident.

In the depths of the warehouse, Jeong-woo's mind shatters under the weight of his past, reliving his innocent high school days with Bo-young and Da-eun, his voice echoing with denial: "I didn't kill them." Meanwhile, at the police station, a surprising visit from Byeong-moo's father, Heung-soo, interrupts the investigation as he unlocks his son's private locker, intent on retrieving a hidden truth.

Sang-cheol meticulously examines the chaotic aftermath of the accident, uncovering the town's misconception that Geum-hee's plunge from the bridge was an attempt at suicide. Amidst the chaos, Min-soo's parents, Choo-ho and Jung-sook, frantically rush to the hospital, their hearts heavy with concern for Geum-hee's well-being. Ha-seol, eager to lend support, is gently rebuffed by Jung-sook, who tasks her with the domestic duties of tending to the kitchen and tidying up.

Su-oh appears unexpectedly in the kitchen, announcing his intention to search for Jeong-woo. Ha-seol, driven by a shared sense of urgency, joins him on a nostalgic journey, revisiting all the haunts Jeong-woo once frequented. Su-oh's quest leads them to the warehouse, where Ha-seol breaks the devastating news of Geum-hee's accident to Jeong-woo, escorting him promptly to the hospital.

Meanwhile, detectives scrutinize CCTV footage from the streets, piecing together the events that led to Geum-hee's fall. In the hospital, a poignant encounter unfolds as Jeong-woo crosses paths with Min-soo, while Sang-cheol, engrossed in the footage, spots a middle-aged man sprinting through the downpour.

Byeon-moo's heart skips a beat as he recognizes the fleeting figure as his father. Desperate to protect his loved one, he frantically attempts to steer the investigation away from the incriminating footage, only to be thwarted by Sang-cheol's sharp instincts. The police summon Byeon-moo's father, Heung-soo, for interrogation, casting a pall over the already tense atmosphere.

Min-soo's heartache deepens as he informs Jeong-woo of his mother's dire condition—a rupture at the back of her head. Jeong-woo's mind races with suspicion, wondering if Dong-min's recent hostility towards him had somehow led to this tragedy.

Elsewhere, Gu-tak, a dignified guest at a hospital ceremony, is abruptly summoned back to the police station by an urgent call from work. As fate would have it, Jeong-woo and Heung-soo find themselves sharing a bus ride home, an awkward silence hanging between them. Unable to bear the tension, Heung-soo opts for a taxi, diverting to a restaurant instead.

After a long day, Min-soo confides in Na-kyeom about the precarious state of Jeong-woo's mother, their conversation heavy with empathy and concern. At the police station, Byeon-moo's fervent pleas touch Gu-tak's heart, granting him a place in the investigation despite Heung-soo's ambiguous status. Finally, Heung-soo is ushered in for questioning, the air thick with anticipation and uncertainty.

Byeon-moo confidently informs Sang-cheol and his team of his father's whereabouts, leading them straight to the restaurant. Meanwhile, within its confines, tensions brew as Bo-young's parents, Dong-min and Jae-hee, are joined by Min-soo's guardians, Choo-ho and Jung-sook, all embroiled in a heated discussion about Hee-jae's unfortunate mishap. Jeong-woo's sudden arrival throws fuel on the fire, confronting Dong-min about his mother's accident. The argument escalates rapidly, climaxing in Dong-min shattering a glass bottle over Jeong-woo's head. Ha-seol's panic sets in as she rushes to Jeong-woo's aid, while Jae-hee hastily whisks Dong-min away upon hearing the ominous wail of approaching police sirens. Byeon-moo's father is swiftly escorted to the hospital for questioning, leaving Jeong-woo reeling from a sense of betrayal by his once-trusted friend's kin.

As the night deepens, Sang-cheol's investigation takes a turn as he confronts Gu-tak, delving into Byeon-moo's involvement in the case. His interrogation of Heung-soo further complicates matters, with the latter visibly agitated upon being questioned about Geum-hee's tragic accident. When Heung-soo labels Jeong-woo as a criminal, the cop's response solidifies Jeong-woo's status as a victim in the eyes of the law.

Digging deeper into the double homicide investigation files, Sang-cheol realizes that unraveling Geum-hee's case will be no easy feat. In parallel, Ha-seol's conversation with Su-oh about Jeong-woo's murder case only serves to agitate him further, prompting a terse request for her to depart. Elsewhere, Sang-cheol chances upon Jeong-woo outside Gu-tak's abode, and a heated exchange ensues. Gu-tak's invitation to step inside reveals a surprising scene: Byeon-moo and his father are present, causing Heung-soo to bristle at the sight of Jeong-woo and abruptly exit, steadfast in his refusal to divulge any further information regarding Geum-hee's fate.

Despite Heung-soo's reluctance, the police sense his duplicity. Gu-tak urges patience and composure upon Jeong-woo, amidst the turmoil. Meanwhile, Na-kyeom's visit to Jeong-woo's residence uncovers a telltale clue—his phone, abandoned and waiting to be deciphered.

As they exited, Sang-cheol entrusted Jeong-woo with the task of retrieving his mother's personal items from the police station. Back at their abode, Byeon-moo attempted to engage his father in a conversation about the recent accident, only to be met with silence and a swift retreat to slumber. That evening, upon Jeong-woo's return, his mind wandered back to the joyous moments he shared with his parents a decade ago.

The following dawn, a man strolled leisurely with his canine companion near the kitchen. The dog, curious, picked up a bone that eerily resembled a human one, but the man swiftly confiscated it and discarded it far from sight. Gu-tak, offering a helping hand, volunteered to drive Jeong-woo to the police station. During the ride, Jeong-woo's heart heavy, inquired about the whereabouts of Bo-young and Da-eun's remains. Gu-tak solemnly informed him of the arduous nature of their search, prompting Jeong-woo to disembark and continue on foot.

Sang-cheol uncovered a web of interconnectedness: Byeon-moo and Jeong-woo were childhood friends, bound by familial ties, and their respective families shared a deep friendship that transcended the years. Moreover, the victims in Jeong-woo's case and their parents were also closely acquainted. Jeong-woo, finally back at the station, stumbled upon Detective Kim Hee-do, triggering a flood of memories from his past. Yet, he pushed aside those thoughts and focused on retrieving his mother's belongings.

Desperate for answers, Jeong-woo approached the store owner who last saw Geum-hee, only to be met with hostility and expulsion, branded as a murderer. The episode drew to a close with Sang-cheol's dawning realization of the intricate and labyrinthine nature of the case at hand.
