Episode 4 of "Buried Hearts" kicks off with Dong-ju awakening from a harrowing nightmare, finding himself in the fisherman's humble abode. Shortly after, the fisherman enters, his presence immediately followed by an injection that leaves Dong-ju puzzled.
Elsewhere, in the opulent confines of the Cha mansion, a revelation unfolds: Secretary Gong confirms his sighting of Il-do concealing himself in the chairman's office during the theft of the crucial safe codes. Concurrently, Il-do and Chairman Cha engage in a discussion about their affairs, with the chairman lambasting Yeom Jang-seon as an insatiable parasite, forever demanding more financial indulgence. As a temporary measure, Chairman Cha instructs Il-do to withdraw funds from the inner safe and appease Jang-seon with cash, producing the slip of paper bearing the safe codes and urging Il-do to snap a photo for safekeeping.
Later, during his workout session, Il-do catches a glimpse of a figure on the construction site, mistaking him for Dong-ju. His thoughts are interrupted by Deok-hui's arrival, who informs him that Jang-seon has caught Eun-nam attempting to embark on a journey with Dong-ju. She underscores the impossibility of eliminating Dong-ju but emphasizes the necessity of extricating him from Daesan.
Dong-ju's nightmares persist, haunting him relentlessly. In one particularly vivid dream, a shadowy figure, their identity obscured by a pair of shoes, approaches him, whispering his name—Seong Hyeon. Snapping out of his slumber, Dong-ju finds himself wrapped in bandages, his hunger pangs making themselves known. He voices his complaint to the fisherman, who listens silently.
Meanwhile, Cha Guk-hui sneaks into the chairman's office, her mission to uncover the safe codes. Her search proves fruitful when she discovers the codes tucked away inside a pen stand. However, come morning, when Chairman Cha and Il-do enter the office, Il-do reveals that the codes failed to work. The chairman's memory jogs, remembering that he had entrusted Dong-ju with a new set. Upon checking the pen stand, he finds it empty, prompting him to postpone paying Jang-seon until Dong-ju's return.
At the humble abode of the fisherman, Bae Won-bae, alias Jang Il-nam, offered Dong-ju his sincerest apologies for being unable to escort him to the hospital, explaining that it was imperative to stay under the radar of the authorities. Il-nam introduced himself, while Dong-ju, who introduced himself as Seong Hyeon, struggled to recall much of his recent past. Showing Dong-ju the exact spot on the shoreline where he had been found, Il-nam triggered fleeting fragments of Dong-ju's memory.
Meanwhile, Il-do made an unannounced appearance at Jang-seon's residence, presenting two boxes brimming with cash. However, Jang-seon, astute as ever, recognized that this money did not originate from the chairman's secure vault. His anger toward the chairman surged, threatening to turn Daesan upside down if not rectified.
Il-nam, desiring to assist Dong-ju, handed over his suit, wristwatch, Eun-nam's bracelet, and even his own cellphone. Dong-ju powered on the phone, unbeknownst to him what awaited next.
Eun-nam was taken aback by an unexpected visit from Hui-cheol. Deok-hui informed her that Chairman Cha insisted she relinquish her company shares unless she accompanied Hui-cheol back home. In a rush to confer with her grandfather, Eun-nam's phone rang – it was Dong-ju.
Hui-cheol, catching sight of the ringing device, answered and, recognizing Dong-ju's voice, lambasted him for the intrusion, plunging Dong-ju into further confusion. The call abruptly ended as the phone sparked and powered down.
Chairman Cha made it clear to Eun-nam that she could not have both – her Daesan shares and Seo Dong-ju. Elsewhere in the mansion, Hui-cheol entrusted Eun-nam's cellphone to Deok-hui, recounting the altercation with Dong-ju. Secretary Gong, eavesdropping on the conversation, was struck with astonishment upon hearing the name Seong Hyeon. Ultimately, Eun-nam capitulated and agreed to return home with Hui-cheol, her heart heavy with the decisions forced upon her.
At Daesan, an employee approaches Il-do with urgent news, whispering that he had inadvertently overheard conversations in the secretary's office regarding Dong-ju and their distressing interaction with the Coast Guard. Intrigued and concerned, Il-do promptly seeks an audience with Chairman Cha. In a hushed tone, he reveals the Coast Guard's discovery: Dong-ju had rented a yacht and vanished without returning it. Cha, grave-faced, charges Il-do with the immediate task of locating Dong-ju.
Elsewhere, Il-nam and Dong-ju feverishly comb through the internet, hoping against hope for any hint of a car accident report, but their efforts yield naught. Undeterred, they manage to get Dong-ju's phone repaired. As night descends, Deok-hui entrusts Il-do with Eun-nam's phone, urging him to call Dong-ju and clarify a misunderstanding. She recounts the harrowing encounter involving Hui-cheol, which leaves Il-do visibly shaken.
With trembling hands, Il-do dials the number, his heart pounding. To his astonishment, Dong-ju's voice crackles through the receiver, unaware of the listener on the other end. In a fit of paranoia, Dong-ju accuses Il-do of attempting to end his life. Suddenly, the connection cuts out again, leaving Il-do reeling.
He hurries to inform Jang-seon of this unexpected twist, who, overjoyed at the prospect of recouping his lost funds, wastes no time in giving orders. He commands Gu-ho and Il-do to embark on a mission to retrieve Dong-ju without delay. Without hesitation, they board a helicopter, soaring into the night sky, their determination etched across their faces.
