Curb Your Enthusiasm – Season 12 Episode 1

Published: Nov 08 2024

The premiere of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Episode 1, kicks off with a bang as Maria Sofia, the notoriously糟糕的 actress from the previous season's "Young Larry," makes her appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show, amidst the buzz surrounding Hulu's acquisition of a second season that's garnering accolades from all corners.

The scene then seamlessly transitions to Larry, who finds himself still cohabiting with Irma Kostroski, the city councilwoman whose jingle-singing antics grind on his nerves. To add insult to injury, Larry has been mandated by Irma's AA sponsor to stick with her for a minimum of six months, given her fragile emotional state. With each passing day, Larry marks his calendar with an X, eagerly anticipating his liberation. His frustration culminates in an epic meltdown within the confines of his car, as Siri fails to comply with his commands.

Curb Your Enthusiasm – Season 12 Episode 1 1

Susie and Jeff join Larry for a lunch rendezvous, where he reveals that he's been invited to Atlanta to attend the birthday bash of a wealthy African businessman, a die-hard fan of "Young Larry." His sole responsibility? To behave cordially, a task he insists he'll undertake without resorting to his stand-up antics or any other form of performance. Susie casts a skeptical glance, questioning Larry's ability to maintain a civil demeanor. To make matters worse, Maria Sofia tags along for the ride, meeting Larry and Leon at the airport, accompanied by her emotional support corgi, Pachuca, whose girth is humorously pointed out by Larry and Leon, prompting Larry to reluctantly concede that he can't fat-shame a creature as innocent as a dog.

They arrive in Atlanta, where Larry proceeds to transform his hotel room into a chaotic disaster area, inadvertently earning the ire of the maid. When confronted with Larry's mess, he defiantly suggests that her shock must stem from inexperience. Later, Larry, Leon, and Maria Sofia visit Leon's Auntie Rae, during which Maria Sofia persuades Auntie Rae to try Larry's glasses, inadvertently stretching them beyond repair. Auntie Rae, ever the gracious host, offers Larry a pair of distinctive tortoiseshell cat-eye lenses, which he accepts, albeit reluctantly.

Attempting to mend his original glasses in his hotel room, Larry manages only to send them plummeting into the toilet bowl. Reluctant to retrieve them himself, he hypothetically poses the question to the maid, asking if she'd oblige. She declines, leaving Larry with the colorful, unconventional spectacles as his only option.

At the lavish party hosted by Michael Fouchay, a South African businessman (a far cry from the African nationality he had previously touted), Larry finds himself entangled in a heated debate regarding the propriety of addressing a woman by her nickname upon initial introduction, a rule humorously dubbed the "Brooke/Brookie rule." He is incensed to learn that someone who has only met her twice is privy to using her nickname, while he, who is presumably closer, is not granted the same courtesy.

He exits the party, convinced that he's mastered the art of cordiality, yet Fouchay steadfastly refuses to compensate Larry, citing his failure to fulfill the singular directive of "being cordial." Larry, candid about his true nature, freely admits his aversion to people. When he confronts Fouchay about the unpaid fee, he bluntly confesses as much and surprisingly retrieves his paycheck.

Returning to the hotel, the maid discovers a ten-dollar bill, intended as a housekeeping tip, nestled awkwardly in Larry's toilet bowl. The bill had inadvertently plummeted there while Larry was frantically blow-drying his pants, which had been drenched in Pachuca's slobbery affection. Incensed, the maid retaliates by tossing Larry's attire out of the window. Larry's fortunes dip once again when Pachuca, perched atop his phone, inadvertently dials Fouchay, broadcasting Larry's furious tirade live to an unintended audience.

The episode concludes with Larry paying a visit to Auntie Rae as she waits patiently in line to cast her vote, sweltering under the scorching sun. Larry kindly offers to fetch her a refreshing bottle of water from his car, but his gesture lands him in hot water—arrested for violating Georgia's Election Integrity Act, a stringent law prohibiting the distribution of free food or beverages to voters in line. The screen fades to a mugshot of Larry, framed against the iconic theme tune of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," marking the dramatic close of another whimsical chapter in his tumultuous life.
