Season 12, Episode 8 of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" kicks off with Larry's mock trial, a dry run for his impending court date in Georgia concerning the water bottle incident. However, the mock trial goes off the rails, and Larry is convinced that a juror, who witnessed him toss his keys to the valet, deemed him overly ostentatious. The scene shifts as Larry spots Conan O'Brien walking his dog in the vicinity.
In the meantime, Jeff joins Larry for lunch, casually disclosing that he has an appointment for a back surgery with a mortality rate as low as 3%. Nevertheless, he confides in Larry, entrusting him with the role of power of attorney for Susie, harboring doubts about her decision-making abilities in critical, life-or-death scenarios. Knowing that their respective lawyers share the same office complex, they hatch a clever scheme: they will visit the lawyers together, masquerading it as a legitimate legal meeting for Larry's benefit, thus pulling off a seamless charade without Susie's slightest suspicion.
Susie enters the scene, sensing something fishy, while Larry claims they were merely discussing his mock trial. Larry then receives a call from Richard Lewis, who needs his nose to sniff out a particular odor in an old Mercedes he's considering buying – Richard has lost his sense of smell due to long COVID. Before departing, Larry asks Susie if he can store some fancy cheese in her fridge, which she readily agrees to.
Larry and Richard proceed to inspect the car, and Larry detects a faint whiff of old tobacco. Richard attempts to haggle for a "smell discount" of $3,000, but the seller, DiCarlo, sees right through it, branding it a scam and refusing the discount. Larry's offhand joke about the seller potentially having a colostomy bag falls flat when DiCarlo's reaction hints at a deeper truth.
Larry and Jeff arrive at the law offices to sign the papers, and Larry's eyes meet the valet from the mock trial who harbored resentment towards his key-throwing antics. Unbeknownst to Larry, the valet is actually DiCarlo. Larry signs the papers, transferring power of attorney to Jeff. After signing, Jeff reveals that DiCarlo had undergone stomach surgery, prompting Larry to ponder ways to make amends.
Returning to Jeff and Susie's house, Larry heads to the fridge for his cheese but discovers Susie has devoured it. An argument erupts, and Susie invokes the saying, "possession is nine-tenths of the law," before Larry storms out in frustration.
Next, Larry unexpectedly encounters Conan while the latter is taking his dog for a walk. He inquiries about whether Richard Lewis had discussed the so-called "clearance" with Conan, insisting that the conversation had taken a deceptive turn. Feeling guilty, Larry heads over to DiCarlo to apologize, and in an attempt to cheer him up with his usual humor, ends up purchasing the car at its full price despite its poor performance and a faulty seatbelt.
Larry then ventures out to Beverly Hills to stock up on his beloved luxury cheese, placing the bag in the trunk of his newly acquired, funky-smelling car. To his dismay, Richard Lewis arrives on the scene, infuriated to discover that Larry had acquired the vehicle. In a twist of fate, Richard agrees to repurchase it from him, deducting the $3,000 "smell discount" they had previously negotiated.
Larry arrives at his lawyer's office, where he uses the charging station for his electric car. The valet notices him handing over the keys once again. During their meeting, Larry's lawyer, Christopher Mantle, reviews the juror questionnaires with him, highlighting some damning descriptions: "less than cordial," "repugnant," "surly," and "petty." To Larry's shock, he learns that Susie has informed Mantle about the cheese incident, and Mantle sides with Susie, agreeing that possession is indeed nine-tenths of the law. Frustrated, Larry decides to terminate Mantle's services, declaring, "I'll find a lawyer who'll take my cheese side," and storms out.
As he leaves, Larry receives a message informing him that the power of attorney documents are being sent to Jeff and Susie's residence. He frantically rushes to intercept the confidential paperwork, but the valet has unplugged his electric car, causing it to shut down. Despite this setback, Larry sets off on his mission, but the car conks out right in front of Conan O'Brien's house. Despite not having received clearance to speak with Conan, Larry pleads for an emergency exception, and Conan, being compassionate, agrees to hear him out and even offers to lend him his car. Conan tosses him the keys, but Larry, who had just removed his glasses, is hit squarely in the eye by them.
Larry and Jeff, both sporting eyepatches over one eye (Jeff's thanks to Susie), sign the power of attorney documents back over to Susie. Following this, Jeff receives a text message revealing that DiCarlo's surgery was for an ulcer and that he doesn't have a colostomy bag.
The episode concludes with Richard Lewis calling Larry to express his satisfaction with his new car and revealing that he's on his way to pick up a potential love interest whom he believes could be "the one." However, after hanging up, Larry realizes that he's misplaced the cheese. It dawns on him that he left the cheese in the back of Richard's car, and it now reeks. Unbeknownst to Lewis, who is unable to smell, the stench completely turns off his date within minutes of her entering the vehicle.
