The seventh season of FBI kicks off with its first episode, where the team finds itself under the scrutinizing gaze of the CIA. For reasons unknown, CIA Officer Peter Bradford appears obstinately determined to dismantle the team, yet he faces stiff resistance from all corners. If anything, suspicions are leaning heavily towards Officer Bradford being the culprit. The narrative rewinds 48 hours prior to the CIA's probe, unveiling a harrowing sequence of events.
It all begins with a seemingly random plumber, Amini, who becomes the victim of a daylight car-bombing, resulting in a tragic toll of 12 fatalities and numerous injuries. Astonishingly, all surveillance cameras in the vicinity were simultaneously disabled. Fortunately, Tiffany spots a glimmer of hope in the form of a deceased biker, whose helmet-mounted camera might hold the key to unraveling the mystery. With her last day on the job looming, Tiffany is eager to tie up the case. Scola, though dejected, respects her decision to leave, believing that an officer's departure is crucial when they've had enough.
Back at headquarters, the team delves into Amini's background. A law-abiding citizen with an inexplicably sparse online presence until his daughter's graduation photo emerged two weeks prior. Jubal and Isobel scratch their heads, pondering why anyone would go to such lengths to eliminate a humble plumber. Meanwhile, Maggie and OA inform Amini's distraught family—his wife, Nadia, and daughter, Sarah, are heartbroken. OA senses Nadia is withholding information and pushes her, prompting Maggie to intervene. However, Sarah, following the pair out, spills the beans about a fight between Amini and her uncle, Cyrus. Despite Sarah's assurance of her uncle's innocence, she desires transparency.
Tiffany and Scola visit Cyrus's laundry shop to confront him. Cyrus explains that their altercation stemmed from a dispute over Sarah's privacy-infringing photo. When discussing his alibi, Scola notices Cyrus's palpable anxiety. Cyrus attributes his jitters to the police's abandonment. Before he elaborates, two motorcycle-riding shooters interrupt, gunning down Cyrus. Scola, in vain, tries to pursue them on foot. Returning to the shop, they discover Cyrus's lifeless body.
Elsewhere, headquarters agents struggle to trace the motorcycle, with no leads in sight. The footage from the deceased biker Tiffany secured, however, sheds critical light on the orchestrated attack on Amini. The killers' meticulous planning and expertise imply Amini was far from an ordinary plumber. As this realization dawns, Tiffany informs Jubal of Cyrus's dying words, leaving everyone to ponder: who abandoned him?
After sifting through countless surveillance tapes, the team identifies a local library as a frequent haunt of the motorcycle men. Maggie and OA visit the site. Maggie, acknowledging her bias may have clouded her judgment towards Nadia, seeks OA's forgiveness, which he grants, understanding her recent struggles.
Inside the bookstore, OA spots a suspicious individual attempting to flee. They chase him into a basement, where another man is caught in the act of destroying a computer. The basement reveals a stash of bombs identical to the one used on Amini and the motorcycle's license plate number, bringing the team closer to uncovering the truth.
They haul in the suspects for questioning and uncover their Iranian citizenship. Isobel swiftly reaches out to the Iranian consulate, seeking deeper insights. Inside the interrogation room, one of the men scoffs, insisting that halting the attack is a futile endeavor.
Upon restoring the laptop, a grim revelation unfolds: Amini, Cyrus, and Nadia are Iranian citizens who somehow slipped into the country undetected. Each individual in a photo discovered on the device is marked as a target. Maggie and OA spring into action, racing to rescue Nadia and Sarah, who are now officially fugitives.
They trace Nadia's phone and discover she and Sarah are at a train station. Maggie and OA arrive just in time, spotting Sarah first. OA reaches Nadia at the eleventh hour, saving her from an assassin's strike. Thanks to the station's surveillance cameras, the team manages to identify one of the killers—a shadowy figure without a name.
After securing their target, Scola and Tiffany stay behind to intercept the killers. Unfortunately, one of them spots Scola and plunges a blade into his leg. Tiffany arrives in the nick of time, providing immediate first aid. By the time the dust settles, the killers have vanished, and Peter Bradford appears at headquarters.
He lays the blame on Isobel for sabotaging his operation. Isobel is outraged that he knew Americans were being targeted but took no action. She stands her ground, demanding to know why Peter allowed Amini and Cyrus to die. Peter remains tight-lipped, but Jubal employs deduction to piece together the puzzle.
It transpires that Nadia, Amini, and Cyrus were once involved in a US operation to eliminate a prominent Iranian militia leader two decades ago. The CIA recruited them for the assassination but abandoned them upon their arrival in America. Nadia confirms this, leaving Maggie baffled by the couple's decision to keep their daughter in the dark, jeopardizing her safety. Sarah blames herself for posting the picture of her father and uncle, blowing their cover.
Maggie and OA relocate Nadia and Sarah to a secure, secluded safe house. Maggie vents her frustration at Nadia, but OA urges her to let it go. Meanwhile, the killers distract Jubal and the team by staging a false sighting. By the time Jubal realizes it's a decoy, the killers are closing in on Maggie and OA. Jubal manages to squeeze in a brief warning, and that's all they need.
Maggie and OA stand their ground, taking out one killer and arresting the other. With the threat neutralized, Isobel orders Maggie and OA to transport the team. The CIA wants to debrief Nadia and the team, but Maggie senses something is amiss. She's convinced the CIA wants Nadia and Sarah dead. She decides to call Isobel and alter the orders.
Maggie reassures Nadia and Sarah of their safety and places them under witness protection. She also apologizes for her harsh judgment of Nadia. Later, the team visits Scola in the hospital. Maggie is saddened to see Tiffany leaving. She asks why, and Tiffany replies that she's burned out from work. It seems Tiffany is taking a break and moving to Georgia to help her sister run her cafe.
The investigation returns to Bradford. He persists in asking why Nadia ended up with the US Marshals. Isobel accuses him of betraying the team and giving up the safe house location. She refuses to give Maggie up, and Maggie stands tall, confronting Peter for abandoning the Aminis.
