Florida Man – Season 1 Episode 2

Published: Jun 26 2024

Before delving into the consequences of Mike's discovery of Delly's professional cover-up, episode 2 of Florida Man rewinds the clock to reveal the reason behind Delly's arrival in Florida. Five days prior, she arrived with a singular mission: to uncover the gold that Gil had mentioned to Yenkov as a bargain for his life. Yenkov dismissed Gil's claims until the exact figure of $100 million was revealed — the riches of a Spanish ship that sank in 1775. Gil had given Yenkov's men a specific location in Central Florida, but their search came up empty, leading to Gil's tragic demise by Moss' hands.

Delly, who had overheard the entire conversation, even managed to retrieve the gold coin that Gil had spat out during his torture. Desperate for more clues, she set out to find Gil's boat, but before she could, she stumbled upon Mike in Florida. Her plan was meticulous — she conspired with Jason, the EMT professional, to stage her death. The ruse seemed foolproof until a reckless hooligan, having stolen a police car, collided with the ambulance. Jason was rushed to the ICU, and Delly was left destitute, without her money or phone, which Mike had confiscated.

Mike, though tempted to abandon Delly to save himself, knew deep down that he couldn't bring himself to do it. Despite this, he informed Moss of Delly's supposed demise, only to find himself still entangled in the criminal web. Clara, Benny's wife and the owner of the Palm's Motel where Mike was residing, overheard the conversation, leaving her with a sour taste in her mouth. Mike reluctantly agreed to inspect the boat with Delly the following day, but she lured him into a night of passion, comparing him to Orpheus, thus giving this episode its intriguing title.

Meanwhile, Captain Delgado, Iris' superior, received an update on the Yenkov case from her. Delgado had an alibi for the night Gil was killed — Delly's birthday party. However, Iris seemed intent on finding Delly to corroborate the alibi. Andy descended from his moral high ground to interrogate Mike, but he was startled to find Delly approaching Mike in person. They left as if nothing had happened, but Clara wasn't buying it, her suspicions about Mike growing stronger. Benny, however, remained unfazed — at least for now.

Kretcher, on the other hand, ventured to a gun show in search of a firearm but struck out luck. A little boy approached him with a gun he had found near a crocodile. The amusing tale behind its discovery was that Kaitlin, a news anchor, had reported on a man who robbed a convenience store with a hand grenade, killing the owner in the process. To cover his tracks, he discarded the gun in a lake, and the boy had "fished" it out.

Kaitlin was infuriated by Mike's failure to uphold their agreement. Delly and Mike inspected the boat but found no trace of the gold. Mike forcefully took the keys to Gil's boat from the dockmaster's assistant and urged Delly to flee the country. But she refused to leave without him. Mike struck a new deal with Moss: he would remain in Florida and find Delly's killer. Whoever had committed the crime, Mike reasoned, might not fear Moss as much as they should, thinking of him as less than a father figure. Moss' ego, inflated by such assumptions, concurred with Mike's proposal.

Ketcher's high-speed ride abruptly ended when a vigilant policeman halted him. Unable to produce the rental car's registration papers, and with the officer's eyes catching a glimpse of a gun linked to a murder, Ketcher was swiftly apprehended and incarcerated. His wife's inadvertent revelation to all and sundry that he was a police officer further complicated his plight. Iris, seeking validation from Mike, was met with a lie, as he claimed that Moss had spent the entire night with Delly. Iris was subsequently removed from the case when Delgado learned of Mike's collaboration with Yankov, a potential conflict of interest.

Mike cunningly deceived Patsy, manipulating her into checking on Jason, who lay unconscious in a coma. Meanwhile, Delly retraced her steps to the accident site, discovering a blue USB drive among the wreckage. Moss, planning a memorial for Delly, realized with dismay that the USB had vanished from his safe. Mike reluctantly spent time with Sonny in Patsy's backyard, where Sonny mentioned the flea market at Lake and Colonial, the exact location Gil had mentioned regarding the truck. Sonny confronted Mike about involving Patsy in his schemes, but Mike steadfastly denied any accusations.

Delly, using another's computer, delved into the contents of the USB. Mike's memories flooded back, recollecting how his father had once told him that finding the coin in a fish as a child was a sign that he was destined for greatness. This memory had propelled Mike into a life of gambling, chasing after the next big win. When Mike learned that the truck had been towed, he broke into the towing company's compound that night, desperately searching for it. He triumphantly called Delly, informing her of his discovery. Delly, meanwhile, met with Sonny, signaling a foreboding conclusion to this tumultuous series of events.
