The inaugural episode of "Hazbin Hotel" unfolds with an intriguing tale of Lucifer, a Heavenly angel who was banished for his unorthodox thinking, diverging sharply from the monolithic mindset of his celestial peers. In retaliation for Lucifer's exile, the angels crafted Adam and Lilith upon Earth, but Lilith, defiant and independent, rejected her destined subjugation to Adam. Instead, she sought solace in Lucifer's arms, and their passionate love blossomed. Desiring to gift humanity the precious gift of free will, they bestowed Eve with the forbidden fruit of knowledge, an act that unleashed malice upon the world and disrupted Heaven's harmonious order. Consequently, Heaven meted out severe punishment, casting Lucifer and Lilith into the abyssal darkness of Hell.
While Lucifer languished in torment, Lilith flourished, her strength waxing and the power of Hell swelling in tandem. This alarming escalation compelled Heaven to deploy an annual expedition to Hell, tasked with annihilating a quota of its damned inhabitants. Yet, Lilith harbored a lingering hope, a beacon of optimism that she entrusted to her daughter, Charlie Morningstar, the regal princess of Hell.
In the aftermath of another brutal cull in Hell, Charlie, whose heart ached for her mother's absence spanning seven long years, clung to a fervent dream. She envisioned transforming Hazbin Hotel into a sanctuary where sinners could be redeemed, rescued from their grim fate. By her side stood her steadfast girlfriend Vaggie, the pornographic sensation Angel, the suave bartender Husk, the diligent maid Nifty, and the radio demon Alistor, whose latest radio commercial—a vulgar and inappropriate broadcast—was a testament to his creative but reckless disregard for Hell's standards. Alistor's excuse, a sheepish grin and the claim of disengagement from Hell's affairs for too long, only added a quirky charm to the eccentric ensemble.
When Charlie's father dispatches her to a crucial gathering with Adam, the original entity and commander of the angelic forces, she views it as a golden opportunity to secure Heaven's endorsement for her scheme. During Charlie's tenure at the meeting, Vaggie makes a bold decision to craft an even more captivating commercial. Alistor, sensing her determination, strikes a bargain with her. He vows to assist her in crafting the ultimate advertisement, provided she never asks him to dabble in television again. She readily concurs, and with his formidable powers, he orchestrates the perfect ambiance for the commercial's creation.
However, Charlie's meeting fails to unfold as she envisioned. Adam, a selfish being who prioritizes only his own interests, believes that the inhabitants of Hell are better off being annihilated. In fact, Charlie's presentation merely fuels his desire to expedite the extermination timeline. Normally, they conduct their annual purge once a year, but now, they plan to return in mere six months.
Back at the hotel, Vaggie and her companions are poised to unveil their commercial to Charlie, but their excitement is abruptly cut short by breaking news—the extermination will occur sooner than anyone anticipated.
Meanwhile, in the celestial realm, Lute informs Adam of a startling revelation: one of their own had fallen during the last extermination—an unprecedented occurrence. Adam vows, with steely resolve, that when the angels descend upon Hell once more, they will leave no soul unscathed.
