Never Have I Ever – Season 4 Episode 6

Published: Nov 14 2024

Episode 6 of Season 4 of "Never Have I Ever" kicks off with Devi immersed in a whirlwind of anxiety, awaiting the release of early acceptance letters at 4 PM. Nalini attempts to offer solace, preparing Devi mentally for the possibility of rejection, but this only fuels Devi's fears. She interprets her mother's cautious optimism as a lack of faith in her abilities, haunted by her past mistakes—a suspension for bullying Aneesa, her entanglement in Ethan's theft of Akshara's purse, and the absence of a Letter of Recommendation from Dr. Keyes.

At school, Ben shares a piece of gossip from one of his mother's friends: a student from Sherman Oaks High has secured a spot at Princeton. Devi, believing she stands as one of the top contenders, momentarily basks in a surge of confidence. However, her bubble bursts when she learns that her application has been deferred for further review, leaving her furious and disheartened. To rub salt into the wound, it's revealed that Fabiola is the fortunate recipient of the Princeton offer, not Devi.

Never Have I Ever – Season 4 Episode 6 1

Devi's frustration boils over, directing her anger towards Nalini for underestimating her and failing to offer unwavering support. Her venting reaches a crazy crescendo just as Kamala steps in, steering the conversation onto a new path. Kamala discovers that Paati has indulged Len with a plethora of gifts and even planned a vacation to Palm Springs for them both. Len's playful remark about Nirmala being his sugar mommy strikes a chord of offense in Kamala, who is further astounded by Paati's lavish plans.

The following day, Devi seeks guidance from Professor Warner about her deferred status, but he suggests she reapply as a regular candidate, an option she deems beneath her dignity. Determined to bolster her application, Devi informs the guidance counselor of her intention to join a sport. In the cafeteria, she declares war on the person who applied to Princeton, though her friends remain unaware of her target.

Devi probes Fabiola about Yale, prompting the latter to fib about her rejection. She then approaches Paxton, inquiring about joining a sports club. He proposes she assist the boys' swim team as an equipment manager, earning a varsity letter in return. Meanwhile, Fabiola confesses to Eleanor about her Princeton acceptance, earning her friend's mixed emotions of worry for Devi and joy for Fabiola.

Elsewhere, Ben flaunts his Columbia University sweatshirt, proudly announcing his early acceptance, but Margot's enthusiasm lags behind his. She cites an art show as the reason for skipping their dinner celebration, prompting Ben to reschedule and request to accompany her. Kamala and her supervisor sip coffee, discussing a potential job offer in Baltimore, Maryland.

Kamala harbors uncertainty about the impending relocation, realizing she must make the move within three weeks to secure the job. However, during their encounter, Kamala catches Len in a mysterious conversation with another woman, where he utters references to Nirmala and her wealth. This observation fuels Kamala's suspicion towards Len even further. She informs her boss that she requires additional time to respond to the job offer due to pressing family matters in Sherman Oaks.

At school, Professor Warner urges Fabiola to inform Devi of her Princeton admission, as she must attend the early welcome ceremony at the parking lot. Meanwhile, Devi finds herself chosen for a position on the swim team, and the coach summons her to the parking lot. There, Devi encounters Fabiola amidst the early admits, her heart sinking as she realizes that Fabiola has usurped her spot.

At her art exhibition, Ben accompanies Margot, but things turn sour when she lambasts him to the gallery owner. Margot accidentally dials Ben during the heated exchange, and he eavesdrops on the conversation where the gallery owner insults Ben, and Margot concurs. She claims that her feelings for Ben are nothing more than a high-school romance.

That evening, Devi returns home, her spirits crushed, venting to her mother about feeling betrayed by Fabiola. Kamala enters shortly after Devi, requesting a private conversation with Paati and Nalini. Kamala unveils her sighting of Len with another woman, branding him a gold digger. Paati reveals that she amassed considerable wealth through investing in Apple years ago.

To the astonishment of everyone present, Len boldly proposes marriage to Paati, seeking her hand with earnest intentions. Kamala is left utterly stunned as Paati, despite her earlier warnings, accepts the proposal. Meanwhile, in the privacy of her room, Fabiola shares an intimate moment with her girlfriend, Addison. Addison, noticing Fabiola's distress, gently inquiries about its cause. Fabiola confides in Addison, revealing that her cherished friendship with Devi has been shattered into pieces. Addison, attempting to console her, assures Fabiola that she will make new friends in college. However, Fabiola is insistent, expressing her heartfelt desire for a lifelong bond with Devi and Eleanor. Addison, believing in the power of communication, urges Fabiola to explain her feelings to Devi, hoping that Devi will understand her situation and perhaps they can mend their friendship.

The next day, Fabiola attempts to reconcile with Devi, but Devi shouts at her and storms off without giving her a hearing. Professor Warner catches Fabiola with Eleanor, ready to speak but halted by Eleanor, who doesn't want her secret exposed.

In the break room, Margot confronts Ben about leaving the art show without notifying her. Ben confronts Margot, revealing that he overheard her conversation with the gallery owner and terminates their relationship. Margot tries to justify herself, but Ben finds her veiled insults insulting. Devi remains furious with Fabiola as she sets up lane dividers in the pool, where Paxton discovers her.

Paxton gently enlightens Devi, clarifying that her perception of Fabiola had been a misunderstanding, subtly suggesting that Fabiola's penchant for secrecy might be a protective measure against Devi's fiery disposition. He soothes her, asserting that the situation is unworthy of her anxiety and encourages her to initiate a heartfelt conversation with Fabiola.

Later, in their History class, Fabiola reads an essay brimming with warmth and affection, a poignant tribute to her cherished bond with Devi. Overwhelmed by a tide of emotions, Fabiola finds herself unable to stay within the confines of the classroom and hastily exits. Observing this, Devi and Eleanor swiftly follow suit.

Outside, Devi and Fabiola reconcile, their friendship mending with each sincere word exchanged. Devi's heart swells with genuine happiness for her friend and she apologizes sincerely for causing Fabiola undue stress. Just then, Eleanor drops a bombshell, revealing her intentions to graduate early and pursue acting professionally, following her rejection from Juilliard. Devi and Fabiola, caught off guard, swiftly rally and offer their heartfelt congratulations.

During her session with Dr. Ryan, Devi unburdens her heart, but the therapist wonders what else is brewing in Devi's mind. The teenage girl laments her inability to comprehend why Princeton has deferred her admission, questioning her adequacy for the esteemed institution. Dr. Ryan suggests that perhaps Devi could let go of her Princeton obsession, but Devi's mind drifts back to her childhood. Flashbacks reveal a young Devi discussing colleges with her father, where she expresses her desire to attend "Princess College." Upon learning that Princeton is the closest match, the young Devi decides to make it her lifelong dream.

Returning to the present, Devi asserts to Dr. Ryan that she won't abandon her dream anytime soon. Meanwhile, Kamala informs her boss that she needs to stay back and declines a job offer, prioritizing her family's needs. That night, Nalini and Devi share a heart-to-heart talk, where Devi's mother reveals that she abandoned her studies and came to the United States solely to secure a bright future for Devi. Nalini insists that Princeton's loss is evident in not accepting Devi and expresses her unwavering faith in her daughter's capabilities.

The next day, Devi learns that Ben has ended his relationship with Margot. Realizing that Ben is the only one who understands her frustration over being deferred from a college, the episode concludes on a reflective note.
