The chase resumes with undiminished intensity, but the fugitive takes a desperate leap towards a nearby flag, hoping to grab it and swing to safety. His gamble fails, and he crashes to the ground, his leg shattered in the fall. As paramedics swiftly attend to the injured, a fellow rookie officer, a close friend of Diaz's, discreetly returns his gun, whispering a caution not to mention it to Harmon. He whispers tales of Diaz's rumored influence, hinting at others being fired, including Lasman's partner.

Later, Diaz attempts to delve into Harmon's personal life, inadvertently stirring up the contentious rumor about her role in others' terminations. Harmon's patience wears thin, and she demands to know the source of such allegations. Diaz remains vague, which only fuels her frustration. Interrupted by a call from her mother inquiring about her sister, another cop stationed in LA, Harmon's focus momentarily shifts.

The officers are then summoned to a burglary case. Arriving at the victim's residence, they find a disheveled couple claiming the robbers have already fled. The wife recounts her harrowing experience: returning home to find her husband tied up and the intruder boldly passing her by.

Diaz scouts the perimeter and spots a suspicious figure dashing into a neighboring house. Though hesitant, he's soon joined by Harmon, and together they plunge into the unknown. They apprehend the suspect, who reveals a startling twist: the husband had orchestrated the encounter through a secret app, offering payment for sex. The intended tryst, complete with bondage, was ruined by the wife's untimely arrival.

Later on, Harmon inquisitively approached Diaz, querying the hesitation in entering the premises to apprehend the suspect. Suspecting that Diaz's reluctance stemmed from rumors linking her to the dismissal of officers, Harmon awaited a clarification. Diaz, however, responded by asserting his adherence to legal procedures.

Interrupting their conversation, Harmon received a call from her former mentor, Detective Sergeant Koyama. The detective conveyed an open position on his team and generously extended it to Harmon. Additionally, he shared intelligence suggesting Eddie Watson, alias Maniac, was believed to be in Mexico, cautioning Harmon against any rash actions.

Eager to verify Maniac's location, Harmon steered them towards a local pub, instructing Diaz to remain in the vehicle. Inside, she sought out a man known as Smokey, inquiring about Maniac and mentioning Delgado's demise. Smokey remarked that the demise of the cop had left no one pleased and had been "dealt with," leading Harmon to initially presume he was referring to Cortez's fate. However, he clarified that Maniac, being the son of the influential Quentin, was a figure untouchable by the law, further advising Harmon to desist from her pursuit.

Returning to the car, Harmon overheard Diaz engaged in a conversation with his girlfriend. She relayed Smokey's warning, interpreting it as a sign that Maniac still lingered within the country's borders. Their tranquility was briefly disrupted by a call to another scene—a car blaze. The complainant, a woman, attributed the arson to a homeless individual, lamenting the increasing disturbances caused by the homeless lately. Lasman's presence added to the scene's tension as he pulled Harmon aside, criticizing her for restraining Diaz and neglecting the civilians' safety amidst the mob incident (recall from Episode 2). A shop owner had filed a lawsuit against the police for failing to protect them during that turbulent time, with Lasman placing the blame squarely on Harmon.

As Diaz and fellow officers combed through a homeless encampment, a scuffle erupted, leading to an accidental syringe prick for Diaz's friend Holt in the midst of the chaos. Diaz, caught in a whirlwind of panic, quickly administered emergency medication, with other officers swiftly lending assistance. As Diaz's anxiety persisted, Harmon gently soothed him, bringing a calm conclusion to On Call Episode 3.
