Platonic – Season 1 Episode 8

Published: Jun 21 2024

Episode 8 of Platonic kicks off within the cozy confines of the Greaves household. Sylvia, fresh from her humiliating ordeal at work, steps through the door, bearing the weight of what arguably stands as one of the most explosive workplace scandals to hit the small screen in recent memory. As she prepares to unload her tale to Charlie, Simon steals her thunder, revealing his school presentation about heroes in life, with Sylvia proudly featured among the women he showcases on his screen - a testament to her re-entry into the workforce. Overcome by emotions, Sylvia remains silent, choosing not to burden Charlie with her troubles. Instead, she adopts a charade, pretending to head to work in her suit for three consecutive days, all while secretly spending time at Will's bar, where he repeatedly urges her to come clean with her husband.

After three long days of evasion, Sylvia's resolve finally cracks. Charlie, though stunned, takes the news surprisingly well, grappling with the bizarre circumstances surrounding her dismissal. His attempts to see both sides of the story only irritate Sylvia further. The next day, Katie drops a bombshell, revealing her plans to accompany Andy to San Diego on a business trip to meet Johnny Rev, aiming to secure a licensing deal for their beer in his QSR chain. Sylvia, seizing the opportunity, convinces Will to join them despite his initial reluctance.

Meanwhile, Charlie stumbles upon photos of Sylvia and Will at the bar on Thursday, the day before she confessed her secrets. A panic attack ensues as he wonders what other secrets she might be hiding.

In San Diego, Andy and Reggie are taken aback by Will's unexpected arrival. Despite their reluctance to include him in the meeting, they find themselves unable to exclude him. The group meets Jenna, the head of Johnny 66's food and chemistry division, where Will's concerns about the bland taste of their product are initially met with skepticism. However, Rev's own taste test leaves him convinced of Will's honesty, and he invites the group to supper at his home.

Back at the office, Charlie and his colleagues gather in his office, determined to get to the bottom of the rumors swirling around Sylvia's loyalty. While the evidence is circumstantial at best, the discovery that the lizard in their house belonged to Will only adds fuel to the fire, heightening suspicions that Sylvia may be cheating on Charlie.

The group arrives at Rev's extravagant mansion, worth a staggering $78 million, and is overwhelmed by the magnitude of his wealth. During a conversation, Jenna suggests that Rev should lure Will away from his bartending job to join Johnny 66's newly established liquor and beer division. Left alone in the garage, Rev's advances towards Sylvia become overly aggressive.

Rev's behavior turns sour, prompting Sylvia to reveal what transpired to the group. In his defense, Rev argues that Sylvia's arrival in a new city with a man who is not her husband gave him the impression that she was "fair game." Will considers abandoning the dinner, but Sylvia insists that she can handle the situation.

Suddenly, Andy surprises Katie by dropping to one knee and proposing marriage. She eagerly accepts, and their moment is sealed with a passionate kiss.

At the dinner table, Johnny cannot shake off the incident in the garage. He lashes out at Sylvia, hinting that she is promiscuous. Will, angered by this, steps in to defend her. However, the situation quickly escalates into a physical altercation between Johnny and Will. Johnny angrily banishes them from his house, effectively bringing an end to the deal - for now!

Sylvia returns home to find Charlie lurking in the shadows of the living room, stroking Jessica, the lizard, and muttering, "Or should I call it Gandalf?" The scene is both humorous and tense, underscoring the complex dynamics within the group.
