Amidst her worries, a mysterious golden glow lures her towards a book perched on a shelf. Flipping through its pages, she stumbles upon a recipe for a wondrous ointment meant to heal wounds. Strangely, the ingredients for this recipe seem to materialize within the house, as if by magic.

Renegade Nell – Season 1 Episode 4 1

As Nell and the doctor make their way back to the house, their conversation reveals that Devereaux has been carted off to prison. Devereaux, on the other hand, is ushered into a cozy, well-appointed room with the instructions to stay put.

Sofia returns from her London sojourn, and ironically, Thomas cautions her to steer clear of Poynton. Yet, she has arranged for him to take up residence with them, determined to believe that Poynton poses no real threat.

Roxy applies the ointment to George's wounds, and soon Nell arrives with the surgeon in tow. He examines George's condition and offers a glimmer of hope, stating that he'll do his utmost to save his life, though the odds seem stacked against them. As the surgeon labors over George, Roxy confesses to Nell that she suspects she possesses some form of magic.

Little do they know, a woman named Lady Eularia has stepped in to rescue Devereaux from his prison cell. She reveals herself as his betrothed, furious over his dalliance with Nell. Devereaux sputters out excuses and explanations, but Lady Eularia remains unimpressed and abandons him, leaving him destined for a return to his prison cell.

After the surgery was completed, the surgeon bid his farewell, unaware until now that the woman who had engaged his services was Nell. She revealed the truth to him, and he suggested that they meet his elder brother, Jeremiah Tuplow, a magistrate in Oxford. Once he departed, Nell informed the others that she intended to travel to Oxford for a brief spell.

Meanwhile, Poynton settled into the Blancheford estate, where Sofia approached him, eager to learn about the dark arts. Poynton confessed his allegiance to the Jacobites and bargained with Sofia, offering to teach her in exchange for her assistance in a secret mission. He revealed that a legitimate heir to the throne, James Francis Edward Stuart, was plotting an invasion to usurp the queen's position. Sofia, however, revealed a shocking secret: it was not Jackson but Thomas who had murdered her father. When she raised Thomas's accusation against Poynton, he dismissed it with contempt.

Eager to test her newly acquired powers, Sofia attempted a minor spell and was astonished to find it worked.

Nell made her way to Jeremiah Tuplow's chambers, intent on explaining the intricate situation. But as she spoke, Tuplow suddenly slumped forward, collapsing onto the table. A man rushed in to assist, but it was too late. Tuplow was dead. The man picked up a piece of paper on which Tuplow had scribbled the words "Nelly Jackson." Nell, realizing she was now trapped and in danger, made a swift decision and fled the scene, ending Renegade Nell Episode 4 on a cliffhanger of suspense and intrigue.
