The Acolyte – Season 1 Episode 6

Published: Jul 19 2024

Episode 6 of The Acolyte commences with Osha stirring from slumber, her wounds now neatly bandaged. She attires herself and, knife in hand, ventures out to discover a foreign landscape labeled "UNKNOWN PLANET." Concurrently, on Khofar, Master Sol prepares for departure with Mae by his side. He approaches the console and grimly informs the council of his team's demise. His attempt to communicate with Vernestra is hampered by scrambled transmissions. Mae, meanwhile, advances into the cockpit, knife at the ready, and Sol blunders by addressing her as Osha, instructing her to "take the helm."

At this juncture, it remains ambiguous whether Sol's confusion stems from genuine ignorance or a calculated ruse, given the show's lack of clarity and this season's questionable narrative. Unlike Sol, Bazil detects Mae's sinister aura. After repairing Pip, the narrative shifts back to the "Unknown Planet."

Osha trails Qimir to a nearby pool, where he divests himself of his clothes and plunges into the water for a swim. She seizes his lightsaber, but Qimir senses her presence and identifies her as Osha. He emerges from the pool, naked, and speaks of vengeance, questioning the honor of such a kill. He views her not as a captive but confirms that Mae and Sol are both alive, amused by her apparent concern for Sol over her murderous sister, whom she has relentlessly pursued, spared, and then hunted once again.

Back in the cockpit, Sol embraces Mae, once again misnaming her Osha, and expresses gratitude for her presence. As the ship's power falters, Osha prompts her to investigate. Upon arrival, both Pip and Bazil recognize the true identity of the woman before them. Pip resets to its factory settings, while Bazil stomps on Mae's foot and flees the scene.

As Vernestra learned that Sol had dispatched a distress signal from the Outer Rim, verifying the demise of their entire team, she made a bold decision. Despite the signal originating from Sol's ship, which could traverse the galaxy's vast expanses, Vernestra was determined to lead a rescue mission to Khofar in search of him. She would spearhead this quest alongside twenty other brave individuals.

The scene shifted to Qimir and Osha, where the former, once a Jedi himself, had guided Osha to this planet due to her perceived importance. Qimir hinted that Sol possessed a unique strength in the Force. He further revealed that there was another facet to tapping into the Force, one that stemmed from negative emotions and led to the Dark Side. Qimir emphasized that the distinction between the Dark and Light Sides was merely a semantic one. Having lost everything in his past, Qimir claimed that he was now liberated. Whether this was a veiled reference to Leslye Headland's transition from Harvey Weinstein's assistant to the helm of a mammoth 180 million dollar Star Wars project remained a mystery. Nevertheless, Osha was convinced by Qimir's words and extinguished her lightsaber.

Meanwhile, Sol confronted Mae, pondering how he had failed to detect the villainous presence on Khofar. Mae probed for details about the past, but the power supply suddenly surged back to life. As Mae turned away to ascend to the cockpit, Sol struck her in the back, revealing his recognition of her true identity. The revelation startled even those who knew him best.

Vernestra and her team desperately tried to reach Sol, but he abruptly severed their communication and plunged into hyperspace. As he did so, Vernestra's ship materialized, a near-miraculous occurrence considering the perilous nature of hyperspace jumps, as evidenced in The Last Jedi. Their ships had materialized mere inches apart in the vast expanse of space, a feat bordering on the impossible.

Vernestra and her companions ventured into the forest, navigating to the precise location where the Jedi had fallen. After a grilling interrogation of her companion, Mog, Vernestra struggled to contain her emotions. Despite knowing that the bugs usually slumbered during the day, Vernestra sensed one nearby and swiftly dispatched it with her purple lightsaber whip, her strike swift and decisive. They pondered the identity of the perpetrator behind this carnage, the mystery deepening with each passing moment.

We shift our focus back to Mae and Qimir. The latter is frantically attempting to repair his helmet, all the while voicing his desire for "the power of two, the might of maaaaannnyy," and proudly displaying a scar adorning his back. His lack of discretion is quite evident (though nothing in this series has been particularly subtle), and it's almost as if he's alluding to the fact that he's the elusive "many" child. Without hesitation, Qimir urges Osha to try on the Sith helmet, and she obliges. Meanwhile, Sol confines Mae and engages her in conversation. Despite Mae's past deeds, including the killing of two Jedi Masters, Sol assures her of her release. However, before that, they must have a heart-to-heart talk. Sol implores Mae to listen intently... and then the screen fades to black, leaving us with a cliffhanger.
