Episode 5 of The Gentlemen begins with an intriguing scene where Susie Glass steps into a prison unlike any other. It's more of a mansion with lavish amenities than a conventional jail, and it's here where she visits her father. With a determined air, Susie informs Bobby that Edward has assisted them in locating two additional sites for business expansion, fulfilling his part of the bargain. She asserts that all that remains is the relocation of their labs.

However, Mr. Glass, Susie's father, is not so easily convinced. He insists that Edward is too valuable a prize to let go, hinting that the man has gotten a taste of their illicit business and might be plotting to stick around. This speculation fills the air with tension, but Susie is determined to get to the bottom of it. She confronts Edward, asking him directly if he intends to stay. His vehement denial echoes through the mansion, leaving Susie torn between her father's suspicions and Edward's assurances.

The Gentlemen – Season 1 Episode 5 1

Given Edward's extensive military training, Susan holds high hopes that he can assist her in her present predicament. Susan, a skilled smuggler, manages to sneak in approximately 80 million pounds worth of weed annually through the bustling port of Zeebrugge. However, their operations have lately encountered a significant obstacle, with several of their shipments falling prey to the vigilant Belgian Federal Police.

Florian de Groot, the influential figure overseeing Zeebrugge port, has now issued an ultimatum, demanding an additional 1.5 million pounds to guarantee the smooth sailing of their illicit trade. During a tense negotiation session, Susan attempts to haggle the bribe down to 1.2 million pounds, but Edward, sensing Florian's untrustworthiness, suggests exploring alternative strategies.

Before they can reach a consensus, the lab is suddenly plunged into darkness as the power is abruptly cut. Amidst the confusion, it becomes apparent that someone is attempting to steal the generator. To their astonishment, the perpetrators reveal themselves to be a group of children and a woman belonging to the Ward family. The woman explains that they were desperate to steal the generator to provide warmth for the children, who were forced to sleep in the cold.

Edward, deeply sympathetic to their plight, makes a compassionate decision. He allows the Wards to keep one of the generators as a charitable gesture, offering them a small beacon of hope in their dire situation.

The following morning, Susie and Edward ventured to visit JP Ward, a man who had unexpectedly stumbled upon their clandestine underground weed laboratory. JP, realizing the gravity of the situation, proposed a truce: he would keep silent about their illegal operation if allowed to become a part of it. Susie, after some deliberation, agreed to consider his offer, on the condition that he assist them in smuggling their produce to Europe. JP nodded in acquiescence, and as a show of goodwill, Edward granted the Wards permission to utilize their land as a parking spot for their caravans.

True to their bargain, JP and his cousins wasted no time getting to work and succeeded in smuggling millions of pounds worth of weed, cleverly concealed within a statue of the Virgin Mary. However, Florian's keen eye eventually pierced through Susie's smuggling techniques, unraveling the secret of how she had been transporting her contraband across the continent.

The situation took a turn for the worse when someone broke into the lab and stole four million pounds. Suspicion naturally fell upon the Wards, and when Edward confronted JP Ward, he became defensive and stormed off the estate. Edward pieced together the clues and came to the conclusion that Florian was the real culprit.

Edward and Susie arranged a clandestine meeting with Florian, where they poisoned his food. In exchange for the antidote, they demanded to know the identity of the true thief. The culprit was revealed to be Keith, the bald mobster who had previously attempted to frame Edward.

As the episode drew to a close, Edward mended fences with JP. As for Keith, he met his fate at the end of JP's gun. Before expiring, Keith warned Edward not to trust Susie and revealed that Jethro had never left the country; he had been killed on Susie's orders, a revelation that left Edward reeling.
