The Morning Show – Season 1 Episode 9

Published: Jun 14 2024

The episode opens with Mitch visiting Hannah, seeking to discuss their past encounter where she slept with him to secure a promotion. He pleads with her to go public and expose Fred's tactics of silencing the women he'd been involved with. After spinning a tale that attempts to make her believe she wasn't really a victim, she hesitantly agrees to consider his request.

Meanwhile, Bradley and Alex gather for drinks in Alex's penthouse apartment, where they delve into the recent announcement of Bradley's divorce. However, the conversation soon shifts to Mitch, who had approached Bradley seeking an interview on her show. Alex reacts angrily, suspecting Mitch's ulterior motives and believing that Bradley had been an easy target for his manipulations.

Maggie Brenner meets Cory in a tense encounter, grilling him about rumors of a corporate takeover. She reveals that she's privy to inside information that could potentially incriminate key players in the network. Cory remains evasive, claiming he's not afraid to lose his job. Seeking to gain the upper hand, Alex decides to lunch with Fred and spill the beans about Bradley's revelations regarding Mitch.

The Morning Show – Season 1 Episode 9 1

After a discussion on what's best for the show, they reach a consensus: Bradley should be excluded from future episodes. Fred casually mentions that Charlie was also aware of Mitch's antics and had protected him. The scene shifts to Bradley, who finds herself in a similar situation with Cory. She confides in him that Mitch knows about Fred's past of silencing women to protect his interests. This revelation persuades Cory to assist her in her quest to secure the interview for her show.

The relationship between Yanko and Clare is tense, as Clare avoids him after their encounter with HR. In an attempt to ease the tension, Yanko invites her out for a real first date. Elsewhere, Alex discusses plans to replace Bradley with Fred's new candidate, Daniel. She instructs him to keep their scheme a secret for now. As Daniel exits her flat, he secretly calls off his deal with YDA.

Clare confides in Hannah about her dating life with Yanko and her recent meeting with HR. Hannah reveals a bombshell: it was she who reported their secret liaison, as she caught them sneaking around and believed it wasn't conducive to her career. This revelation angers Clare, despite Hannah's explanation that she did it to protect her from being exploited.

As Clare prepares for her first date with Yanko, she begins to have doubts, overwhelmed by the prospect of what others might think of her. Yanko tries his best to reassure her, but his efforts fall flat, and she ultimately confesses that her feelings have changed.

After a tense phone conversation with his lawyer regarding his divorce, Mitch was startled to find Alex standing at his doorstep. She delivered the unexpected news that Bradley had decided against interviewing him and advised him to steer clear of the show. Mitch, outraged, confronted her, reminding her of her past mockery about his romantic entanglements. Alex, undeterred, firmly stated that he would not be appearing on her program. Mitch, unfazed, confidently retorted that he would easily find another outlet.

As a last resort, Alex revealed a past incident where they had both woken up together after a night of drinking, with neither recalling how they had ended up in such close proximity. The revelation left Mitch stunned.

Meanwhile, Bradley and Cory convened with Charlie to discuss Mitch's interview, which Charlie feared would be a disaster for the channel. However, they persuaded him that conducting the interview would be preferential to allowing another program to scoop the exclusive.

Elsewhere, Hannah received a frantic call from Mitch, pleading with her to go on record and support him. She reluctantly agreed to meet him at his apartment, where she confessed that she hadn't used him for a promotion but had felt manipulated and pressured. Mitch, angered, retorted that she couldn't blame him for her regrets, as she should have been aware of his intentions that night. She grudgingly agreed to do the story but insisted on remaining anonymous.

Chip, concerned for Alex, called to check on her welfare. Although he seemed poised to say more, he held his tongue and simply wished her a goodnight, leaving the episode on a poignant note.

As the first season of The Morning Show nears its climax, the future looks increasingly uncertain for the network's personnel. Mitch's upcoming interview promises to be explosive, and the question lingers: how many casualties will he leave in his wake? Alex, determined to survive the fallout, is resorting to any means necessary, including falsely accusing Mitch of exploiting her.

The intricate web of relationships and the chemistry between the characters continue to captivate, making the show a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience. With a second season already on the horizon, anticipation builds for next week's episode, which is sure to end on a cliffhanger. Nonetheless, I am hopeful that we will finally see some resolution for some of our beloved characters.
