The Power – Season 1 Episode 2

Published: Jun 12 2024

In the second episode of The Power's inaugural season, Margot gently wakes her husband on their special anniversary, while Jos unwittingly ignites a fire in the microwave, still grappling with her startling newfound ability. As the day unfolds, Margot receives startling news: emergency services have reached their budgetary limit, and fires are erupting everywhere, curiously linked to teenage girls.

As a doctor, Rob examines the mysterious marks on a teenage girl's arms, concluding that they are electrical burns. He suspects someone is hurting her, but her mother dismisses it as mere playground scuffles with other girls. Meanwhile, Tunde vows to uncover the truth behind Ndudi's hospitalization after a devastating head injury, yet he impulsively uploads a video of her electrocution without her consent, despite whispers of her being a witch.

Margot stumbles upon Tunde's video and is horrified by the comments from teenage girls claiming similar experiences. She urgently shows the video to Governor Daniel, arguing that all the recent fires are somehow connected to this phenomenon. He brushes it off but assures her that a team will investigate discreetly and redirect the funding she desperately needs. However, his true advice is for her to calm down and spend time with her husband.

At home, Rob and Margot finally settle down to celebrate their anniversary and share their daily experiences. Rob gently encourages Margot to let go of her pent-up anger, reminding her that suppressing it will only do harm. As a special gift, he presents her with a wedding present from his mother and challenges her to break it. Unable to contain her fury over how Danden dismissed her, Margot angrily throws it to the ground.

Jos, too, is grappling with her own challenges. One day, as Rob drives her home from school, she inadvertently sends an electric shock coursing through the car. Rob wonders if it's the same phenomenon she exhibited with the microwave, but Jos quickly exits the car and walks away, unwilling to discuss her newfound power with her parents. Although she may keep her secrets from her parents, she finds solace in Kat and Ryan, who kisses her for the very first time.

In Carpathia, authorities brand the fires as acts of vandalism and anarchism, declaring that the young female perpetrators will face the ultimate punishment. Tatiana, a former gymnast now married to Carpathian president Viktor Moskalev, remains calmly stoic in the face of this uproar. She tries to convince Viktor that there are more pressing matters to attend to than the antics of teenage girls, but he remains unmoved. Memories flood her mind of her own teenage years, when her mother scolded her for being too loud and bold.

Her mother visits her unexpectedly, bearing the news of her father's death and a request for money. But Tatiana remains unyielding, refusing to give her mother anything, recalling how her mother never gave her anything in return. Elsewhere, Roxy desperately tries to persuade her father to track down the men who killed her mother, but she senses that he's not taking her pleas seriously.

Later, she watches the viral video of Ndudi with rapt attention. Filled with determination, she declares to Bernie that she possesses the same capabilities, perhaps even surpassing them. Other girls, she insists, are not as formidable as she is. To prove her point, she leads her dad and brother to a vast field, eager to showcase her abilities.

Meanwhile, Allie's journey continues, fraught with challenges. She attempts to pray for guidance, but the relentless voice in her head mocks her, reminding her that God has been silent in her struggles. Fearful of being recognized as the prime suspect in Clyde's murder, she steals money while concealing her face, wary of the news circulating about his demise.

Eventually, her path crosses with a broken-down car, and with nothing but her bare hands, she manages to give it a jump start. However, in the process, she accidentally hurts a young girl, causing the vehicle's owner to angrily shove her to the ground and drive away.

Exhausted and aching, Allie sits alone in the field, pondering the reason behind her misfortunes. "Because the world is crying out for a revolution," her inner voice whispers, and it is Allie who is destined to be its voice.

Across the globe, teenage girls are emerging as forces to be reckoned with, but this newfound power is not without its perils. In the early morning hours, Helen's frantic call jolts Margot awake with the shocking news: a plane has crash-landed in the heart of their town, leaving a trail of destruction and uncertainty in its wake.
