As they journeyed up the mountain, leaving their steeds behind, Yennefer and Geralt shared a fleeting yet profound moment. Along the path, Geralt stumbled upon a starving Hirrika, only to see it slain by Sir Eyck, Yennefer's loyal guard, much to Geralt's dismay. Later, around the campfire, tensions flared as various hunting parties debated the Kingdom's future, eventually shifting the discourse to the mysterious creatures known as dragons.
Meanwhile, Ciri and Dara traversed the dense forest, accompanied by the doppelganger Mousesack. Dara's suspicions of Mousesack grew, particularly after he escaped unscathed from the clutches of Nilfgaard. He privately warned Ciri before Mousesack attempted to sway her with a princely sash. However, Dara's ambush exposed Mousesack's true nature, and the doppelganger pursued Ciri through the woods, revealing its sinister form.
Within the dragon-hunting group, suspicions also began to surface. Sir Eyck was discovered, his throat savagely slit. After discussing Yennefer's yearning for a child, Geralt pleaded with her to follow the shorter, dwarven-led path. As the group splintered, the dwarves guided Geralt and the others along a treacherous trail. Tragically, the path crumbled beneath their feet, sending Borch and his companions plummeting to their fate.
After a night of intimate closeness, Yennefer and Geralt set out in the morning, ultimately encountering the dragon. To their surprise, they also stumbled upon the fabled golden dragon, who was in fact Borch in disguise. Borch, a dragon in his true form, had recruited Geralt due to his compassion for creatures and profound understanding of their struggles. However, the rest of the hunting group soon arrived, unaware of Borch's true identity, and immediately attacked Geralt. A fierce battle erupted as Yennefer and Geralt banded together, defending the dragon's egg from the warriors. After emerging victorious, Jaskier hastened to their side, completing this epic chapter in The Witcher's tale.
Amidst the turmoil, Ciri is found helplessly bound to a tree, her fate hanging in the balance. Just then, Dara swoops in, her savior, yet he abandons her in the depths of the forest, leaving her alone and vulnerable. As the credits roll, Geralt's ire burns brightly towards Jaskier, turning his gaze away from the singer as he gazes out at the horizon, where the ominous clouds of war gather. It seems as though we may bid farewell to Jaskier for some time, given the abrupt and tense conclusion of their interaction.
The humor in this series has been a mixed bag, but this episode's attempt at humor falls flat. Despite the episodic nature of the story, focusing on a new monster in each chapter, the production design and visuals remain breathtaking. This episode shines with breathtaking aerial shots of the lush landscape, and while the world-building could be more robust, Henry Cavill embodies the role of Geralt with unparalleled fervor. With the finale looming large, we can only speculate how this intricate tale will ultimately unfold.
