Once again, Shaw is partnered with the resourceful Reenie to solve this perplexing case. However, the skeptical lawyer casts doubts on Clay's innocence, pointing out that Clay and Avery owned an asbestos removal business together. One fateful night, Clay discovered that Avery was running an illegal poker game in their home, a revelation that enraged Clay, who had repeatedly warned Avery to stop his shady dealings. In a fit of anger, Clay threatened to kill Avery and was seen striking him violently in the head.

Shaw visits Clay in prison, seeking clues to the missing witness. Clay reveals that, despite their heated argument on the night of the murder, they eventually calmed down and talked things through. With the help of Velma and Teddi, Shaw uncovers another illegal poker game being held at a secret location that same night. Realizing that the person who sent the mysterious message to Stephanie must be present at the game, Shaw cleverly infiltrates the gathering and arranges for the police to make a timely arrest.

The culprit is revealed to be a girl named Leila Kent. Under questioning, she confesses that the secret witness is a woman named Mallory, about whom Leila knows only her name, having played poker with her and overheard the crucial information. Mallory, it turns out, is Avery's girlfriend, a fact that raises further questions about her involvement in the case. Clay reveals that Mallory's silence is puzzling given that she would presumably have come to Avery's defense.

Now, with Mallory in grave danger from the killer, she has gone into hiding. Shaw learns that she is sheltering in Kansas City, which becomes his next destination in this thrilling hunt for the truth. As the episode reaches its climax, Shaw's determination to find the missing witness and solve this case takes center stage, promising an even more suspenseful turn of events in the next installment of Tracker.

Clay was brutally stabbed in prison, leaving him hospitalized and fighting for his life. Some shadowy figure was hell-bent on silencing him, determined to prevent the case from being reopened. The indifferent public defender shrugged off the matter, casually mentioning to Reenie that the police had fruitlessly searched for a mysterious witness.

Shaw managed to track down Mallory's address through her car reseller, but his quest ended in disaster when her furious uncle knocked him unconscious. However, Mallory's heart softened when she learned Shaw's true intentions, and she revealed the shocking truth. Caesar Ashford, a notorious ex-con, had killed Avery in a money dispute. Mallory agreed to testify against him, her eyes glinting with determination, as Shaw promised to protect her and finally allow her to live a life free from constant fear.

But their journey to St. Louis was anything but smooth. Ashford intercepted them, his face twisted in anger. Shaw quickly disabled his car's tyres, and through Reenie, they discovered a shocking truth - Le Trou, the public defender in Clay's case, was secretly assisting Ashford. Suddenly, Reenie was attacked, kidnapped by the sinister Le Trou. He demanded a trade with Shaw, leaving him with no choice but to comply. But Shaw was determined to save both women, no matter the cost.

Ashford arrived at the designated meeting point, his eyes blazing with menace. He threatened to kill Reenie regardless of the outcome, his words chilling the air. But at the last moment, he hesitated, his resolve wavering. Shaw seized the opportunity, setting a trap that successfully neutralized the public defender. The two men engaged in a fierce struggle, punches flying, until Ashford lost his footing and plummeted to his death from the terrace.

With Ashford's demise, Clay's name was finally cleared, and another innocent man was freed from the shackles of injustice. Shaw and Mallory stood together, triumphant yet exhausted, knowing that their brave actions had helped bring justice to the world.
