The esteemed actor-singer Dylan Minnette, who portrayed Clay Jensen throughout the captivating four seasons of the Netflix hit '13 Reasons Why,' is now revealing the reason behind his hiatus from the silver screen to immerse himself in the world of music with his rock band, Wallows. Having graced the acting world since the tender age of eight, Minnette candidly shared his passions and aspirations in a recent interview on the Zach Sang Show.
"I've been blessed with success in acting," he confessed. "My role in '13 Reasons Why' was immensely popular, and it marked a pinnacle in my acting career. However, it gradually began to feel more like a routine job. Despite my fortunate position, it was always enjoyable and inspiring, but the novelty gradually wore off."
Minnette revealed that he and his bandmates, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston, have harbored a dream of taking their music to the highest heights. "I feel I'm at a juncture where I can devote myself fully to music and push its boundaries," he added. "To achieve this, I must invest all my time and energy, treating it with utmost seriousness. We're a real band, intent on doing real band things."
Expressing his current passion for music as "something that feels genuine and inspiring," Minnette acknowledged that he still harbors a desire to return to the screens, reminiscent of his thoughts last year, albeit thwarted by the actors' strike. As his break from Hollywood elongates, having last appeared in 'Scream' and 'The Dropout' in 2022, Minnette confessed that he's "beginning to feel a renewed spark for acting, a creative urge to contribute artistically in other fields beyond music."
"I sense a calling to act again," he continued. "When the time comes, after fulfilling our commitments to Wallows and our bandmates are ready for a break, I'll be ready with the perfect inspiration to embark on a new journey."
