The 44-year-old comedian has always been transparent about her health challenges. In 2021, she underwent a hysterectomy to address endometriosis, a reproductive condition characterized by abnormal tissue growth outside the uterus. Sharing the news on Instagram at the time, Amy, who is mom to her 6-year-old son Gene with husband Chris Fischer, revealed, "The doctor discovered and removed 30 endometriosis spots. He also took out my appendix, which had been compromised by the endometriosis. My uterus was filled with a significant amount of blood."

Nearly three years hence, Amy disclosed her diagnosis with Cushing syndrome, a hormonal disorder stemming from prolonged exposure to steroids. In a February 2024 edition of the "News Not Noise" newsletter, the actress of "Life & Beth" recounted, "While promoting my Hulu show on camera, I was spending hours at a time in MRI machines, enduring multiple blood draws that caused my veins to collapse, and fearing I might not witness my son's growth. Hence, learning that I have a form of Cushing syndrome that will resolve on its own and that I am healthy was beyond exhilarating."

According to Amy, her condition came to light following criticism over her "puffier" face, a common side effect of Cushing syndrome often termed "moon face." She joked about the backlash, saying, "But thank goodness for that, as it was how I realized something was amiss." Amy traced the cause of her Cushing syndrome to steroid injections she had received as scar treatment.

She added, "For nearly two decades, I've endured comments and scrutiny about my appearance, as all women do. And you're correct; my face is puffier than usual right now. I have endometriosis, an autoimmune disease that every woman should educate herself about. My body is undergoing some medical and hormonal changes, but I'm alright."
