Anthony Mackie may have reached a new pinnacle in cinematic fame with his latest venture, "Captain America: Brave New World," yet the role of a parent remains his foremost priority. During a recent guest appearance on "The Pivot," Mackie shared heartfelt insights into nurturing his children. "I instill humility in my boys. They've never owned a pair of Jordans, nor do they engage in those flashy online antics," he revealed. "Regardless of whether I'm the biggest star on Earth, don't let me catch you acting foolishly."
He elaborated, "My eldest, a 15-year-old, gets it. He advises the younger ones, saying, 'Hey, don't upset Dad.' When one understands the right path, he straightens out the rest." Mackie, who co-parents four sons with his ex-wife Sheletta Chapital, finalized their divorce in 2018.
The "Avengers" franchise actor further underscored the significance of fostering strong character traits in his sons. "Over the past two decades, we've witnessed the decline of the American male. Masculinity has been virtually eradicated in our homes and communities for various reasons. But I raise my boys to embody young men. Take that as you will," he emphasized.
Since the tender age of two, Mackie has instilled in his sons the importance of gratitude, chivalry towards women, and care for their mother. "Before every job, I remind my 15-year-old, 'You're the guardian of the house. Secure the doors. Set the alarm every night. Message or call me every evening before bedtime and first thing in the morning.' I cherish this, for we are men," Mackie expressed.
To Mackie, all the "wealth" and "celebrity" in the world are meaningless if he cannot safeguard his family. "For me, the concept of American masculinity is uniquely different," he affirmed. Having debuted on the silver screen in 2002's "8 Mile," Mackie has since starred in numerous films, notably as Sam Wilson (alias Falcon) in the MCU, before being appointed the new Captain America.
