Damson Idris unveiled a pivotal moment in his life that dramatically transformed him, stemming from his role in the eagerly anticipated film, F1. In this star-laden cinematic masterpiece, Idris portrayed Joshua Pierce, a spirited young Formula One racer and teammate to Brad Pitt's character, Sonny Hayes—a former F1 legend who after decades away, returned to the racing circuits with a vengeance.
At the glamorous F1 premiere, held amidst the bustling lights of New York City's Times Square, the talented actor from Outside the Wire confided in People Magazine about how his high-speed driving stints in the film had a profound impact on his real-life driving habits. With a chuckle, he admitted, "I won't sugarcoat it; it actually instilled a much safer driving demeanor in me."
Idris, who pushed the pedal to the metal, reaching speeds of up to 180 miles per hour while filming those exhilarating scenes, expressed his awe for authentic F1 drivers. He added, "I hold immense respect for F1 racers, the blinding speeds they attain, and the tremendous pressure they endure while achieving such velocities." He further elaborated, "Absolutely, these days, when I'm behind the wheel, I'm content with a leisurely cruise, minding my own affairs."
Joining Idris and Pitt in this thrilling ride are Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon, with the film co-produced by none other than Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion. Marking its grand debut, F1 is set to race into theaters worldwide on June 27.
