Dean Cain has recently spoken out about the pervasive issue of sexual harassment in Hollywood, breaking his silence on a deeply personal matter. In an exclusive interview with Variety, the Vendetta star disclosed that he himself had been a victim of sexual harassment perpetrated by a powerful executive in the entertainment industry. "I stood on the brink of filing what could have been the most significant sexual harassment lawsuit in Hollywood's history," revealed the 58-year-old actor, who donned the cape of the Man of Steel in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from 1993 to 1997.
Dean confessed that he had "never before entrusted a reporter" with the harrowing tale he described as a "past trauma." Nonetheless, this incident cast a long shadow over both his professional endeavors and personal relationships. Dean referenced his high-profile romance with model Gabrielle Reece, acknowledging, "The harassment took a heavy toll on our bond at that time."
The American actor, whose credits also include roles in Las Vegas, Clubhouse, and Beverly Hills, 90210, refrained from naming names or offering incriminating details about the alleged perpetrator. Yet, Dean opened his heart, revealing that he harbored thoughts of "initiating a lawsuit" after the ordeal left him financially drained.
On the professional front, Dean shared that he was denied his rightful earnings for his contributions. "My understanding of residuals was woefully inadequate back then," he lamented. He further elaborated on Warner Bros.' tactics, saying, "They bury the financial evidence deep, making it seem like the money is lost in a labyrinthine maze. It's a farce." Dean recounted, "I should have sued. George Clooney did just that on ER and was handsomely compensated for his troubles." However, Dean added that he was dissuaded from legal action on the grounds that, "One doesn't want to alienate the very source that nurtures their career."
