In a recent revelation, Demi Moore has opened up about her decision to take on the role of an exotic dancer in the 1996 film "Striptease," during a conversation at the New Yorker Festival over the weekend. Reflecting on her illustrious decades-long acting career, the 62-year-old actress revealed that roles often choose her just as much as she chooses them.

"There's a thread that runs through it, even if it's an unconscious one. I think my roles tend to challenge the status quo," she said, as quoted by the Daily Mail. Demi further noted that "G.I. Jane" and "Striptease" were particularly significant for her, as they required her to confront her insecurities about her body and her own discomfort with it.
She explained, "There's a certain physicality to these roles, and I think a lot of it was an effort for me to overcome some of my own issues around my body and my own discomfort in my own skin." These films, she said, were where she knew her body was a crucial part of the character and pushed her to face herself and that discomfort, knowing it would be shared on a certain level. She also mentioned that "The Substance" achieved a similar goal in a different way at a different time.
Earlier this year, in 2024, Demi reached a career milestone when she won the Golden Globe for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category for her role in "The Substance." She also earned a SAG Award, Critics' Choice Award, and was nominated for a BAFTA and Academy Award for her role in the body horror movie.
Currently, Demi can be seen in season two of "Landman," which will be available on Paramount+ starting November 16th.
