MacRae left an indelible mark on the television landscape with her memorable roles in hit TV shows spanning the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Her illustrious career saw her starring in shows like General Hospital, Gunsmoke, I Dream of Jeannie, The Andy Griffith Show, Bonanza, Gomer Pyle: USMC, Kojak, Days of Our Lives, Guiding Light, and countless others. Her last known acting credit dates back to 1989, but her legacy continues to live on in the hearts of her audience.

MacRae is perhaps best remembered for her portrayal of Lou-Ann Poovie, Gomer Pyle's beloved girlfriend in the comedic series Gomer Pyle: USMC. Her charming chemistry with the character of Gomer Pyle captured the hearts of viewers, making her a household name. Additionally, she had a recurring role as nurse Meg Baldwin in General Hospital from 1969 until her character's untimely demise in 1973. Her compassionate portrayal of the nurse won her legions of fans.

After bidding farewell to the acting world, MacRae relocated to North Carolina with her husband, Charles Day Halsey Jr., to enjoy a peaceful life away from the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry. She left behind a loving family, including five stepchildren - Terry Halsey, Peter Halsey, Hugh Halsey, Cate Halsey, and Alex Halsey Topper - who will forever cherish her memory.

This week, the General Hospital family suffered another profound loss as actor Johnny Wactor, who played Brando Corbin on the show, was tragically shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend. Allegedly, Wactor was gunned down by three men in a bid to steal a catalytic converter. The perpetrators remain at large, leaving a void in the hearts of Wactor's colleagues, friends, and fans alike. MacRae's passing and Wactor's untimely death are both heartbreaking reminders of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
