Eva Longoria currently shines as the lead in Apple TV+'s captivating series "Land of Women," but her television prowess this year extends far beyond that. Later this summer, she'll grace our screens once again in the fourth season of the hit comedy-mystery "Only Murders in the Building."
When the news broke that she'd be joining the cast, Longoria recalled with IndieWire, "[My friends] were bewildered, asking, 'Who? What character are you playing? Are you the murderer?' And I told them, 'No, but this is the best character I've ever portrayed: It's me, Eva Longoria!'"
Indeed, in this meta-season of "Only Murders," the intrepid podcasters and amateur detectives — portrayed brilliantly by Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez — find themselves in the heart of Los Angeles, witnessing the filming of a movie inspired by their own first podcast season. Longoria steps into the spotlight as a fictionalized version of herself, portraying Gomez's beloved character, Mabel, in the movie. And she's relishing the opportunity to unleash her comedic prowess.
"My lines are hilarious," Longoria teased. "The showrunner even called me recently, saying, 'Episode 7 had us both in tears of laughter. We couldn't even get through the edit. My husband had to keep rewinding because we were laughing so hard.' Working with a stellar cast like Meryl Streep, Melissa McCarthy, Zach Galifianakis, Eugene Levy, Steve, Marty, and Selena feels like a dream. Being on that set was surreal. And to share the screen with Meryl? It's truly amazing."
After devoting herself to her directing career, including the 2023 biopic "Flamin' Hot" and the 2022 documentary "La Guerra Civil," it's a joy to see Longoria back in front of the camera for a weekly series like "Land of Women." And even more thrilling is the fact that "Only Murders in the Building" welcomes her back just a month after the season finale of "Land of Women," premiering on August 26.
As Longoria reflected, "My agent told me, 'You're acting this year, Eva. Back in front of the camera. No directing duties.' And I was okay with that. In fact, I was quite thrilled!" The season finale of "Land of Women" will air on July 23 on Apple TV+, leaving us all eagerly anticipating Longoria's return in "Only Murders in the Building."
