Jon Hamm has recently shed light on his profound disinclination towards portraying heroic figures in cinema. In an exclusive interview with W Magazine, the esteemed actor from Top Gun: Maverick unveiled the reasoning behind his penchant for embodying sinister characters on screen. "I believe individuals can resonate with flawed protagonists who make poor choices, for we have all been guilty of such decisions," remarked the 54-year-old with candor.
Jon emphasized his inclination towards playing antagonists in both film and television ventures. "My portfolio of roles hardly includes saints; rather, they lean more towards the sinful end of the spectrum," elucidated the Baby Driver star with a touch of humor. Nevertheless, he did clarify, "Superman can sometimes verge on monotonous. No disrespect intended to the new Superman [David Corenswet], whom I sincerely hope is a delightful individual."
During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the Landman actor further contended that his iconic Mad Men character, Don Draper, was more of an antagonist than a victim. On the occasion of celebrating the 10th anniversary of Mad Men's series finale, Jon emphasized that people often "perceived Don as an exemplar of masculinity or some such ideal." "Countless analytical articles were penned, and you'd think, 'Hold on, he was a chaotic mess.' I was thrilled with how Matt [Weiner] concluded the narrative, yet it was emotionally challenging," added the Fargo actor thoughtfully.
Meanwhile, Jon also confessed to being an avid fan of Marvel Comics and comics at large. "I'm well-versed with numerous untold tales that still await their moment in the spotlight," he said, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
