The renowned stylist Law Roach divulged a unique bond he shares with the star of 'Challengers', Zendaya. Their collaboration transcends the typical professional relationship. In a candid interview with The New York Times, conducted a year after announcing his retirement from celebrity styling, Roach illuminated his ongoing collaboration with the charming actress.
"We are each other's fashion soul mates," he confessed. "Our partnership is defined by 'big ideas, small details.' I might suggest, 'You should wear 14 dresses, switch them up, add a wig, and then let your hair flow freely!' But she'll gently counter, 'No, no, we'll settle for two dresses, and I'll stick to this hairstyle.'"
He further elaborated, "It's like I draft the script, and she polishes it with her touch. Of course, we don't always agree, and we have our disagreements. But I understand my role. I know she's the captain of the ship, and she respects and loves me enough to let me take the helm sometimes."
When prompted about his apparent lack of retirement, Roach confessed that he's perhaps the most "unretired" retired person, having declined numerous offers—except for Zendaya's. He admitted, "I can't say no to her."
Elsewhere in the conversation, he revealed that the initial months after his retirement were tumultuous. He felt a loss of identity as much of who he was was intertwined with his work. "I was exhausted, and the year before, my nephew passed away. He was just 3 years old, and the tragedy occurred the day before Thanksgiving. I never had the chance to grieve properly because I was constantly working. I struggled with guilt, thinking that my fans would see me as a quitter, and I felt immense sadness."
