Leslye Headland to Make Broadway Debut This Fall With ‘Cult of Love’

The much-anticipated play penned by the creative mind behind 'Star Wars: The Acolyte,' Leslye Headland, will make its Broadway debut this autumn. Her latest work, 'Cult of Love,' weaves a compelling tale of four grown children, along with their partners, reuniting at their childhood abode for the festive season. However, the harmony of the holiday is disrupted by the emergence of old and fresh conflicts. Produced by the esteemed Second Stage Theater, this captivating play will grace the Hayes Theater, commencing its run on November 20 and officially opening on December 12. Under the expert direction of Trip Cullman, who has helmed numerous Broadway successes including 'Choir Boy' and 'Lobby Hero,' the production promises to be a visual and emotional treat. Casting details are yet to be announced, but one can only imagine the depth and complexity this ensemble will bring to the stage.

Headland, who also serves as writer, director, executive producer, and showrunner for Disney+'s 'Star Wars: The Acolyte,' has left her indelible mark on the entertainment industry. Her credits also include being the writer, producing director, and showrunner for the Netflix series 'Russian Doll,' starring Natasha Lyonne. Second Stage Theater has previously showcased her talents in 'Bachelorette' and 'The Layover,' which premiered Off-Broadway at the Kiser Theater. Headland also made her directorial debut in the film adaptation of 'Bachelorette,' starring Kirsten Dunst, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012.

Adding to the cultural offering, Second Stage Theater will also present the New York premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies' play, 'Lunar Eclipse,' Off-Broadway at the Kiser Theater. This production stars Reed Birney ('Mass,' 'The Humans') and Lisa Emery ('Ozark,' 'A Kind of Alaska') as a long-married couple observing a lunar eclipse and reflecting on their lives. Directed by Kate Whoriskey, the production will commence performances on October 9, with an opening night scheduled for October 30.
