Lucy Liu, the 57-year-old actress, shared in a recent interview that her 10-year-old son, Rockwell, is completely unaware of her Hollywood fame despite her three-decade-long career in the industry. Despite her celebrated status, the actress revealed that her son "doesn't know how cool" she is. "He knows I can whip up a killer chicken dish and bake a delicious lasagna," Liu told People magazine. "The basics of being a mom."
The Rosemead star also revealed that Rockwell has only seen a small fraction of her screen work, excluding her 2024 holiday adventure film Red One, which is about rescuing Santa Claus. "He was 9, and probably a bit too young to handle that," she admitted. "But once he got over the scary creatures, he really loved it."
Liu expressed her hope that Rockwell is proud of her and described motherhood as the most transformative experience of her life. "He is my greatest teacher," she said. "I've never learned so much in such a short period of time."
The American actress and producer welcomed Rockwell through surrogate in 2015, a decision driven by practicality. "It seemed like the right option because I was working and didn't know when I could stop," Liu told the magazine in 2016. By 2023, she described her path to parenthood as instinctive rather than heavily planned. "I didn't have a plan," she told The Cut. "I didn't do a lot of research. I just went for it. When the child arrived, I'd figure it out."
