Mahershala Ali Admits He Doesn’t “Know Where Marvel Is at Right Now” After ‘Blade’ Delays

On Monday, Mahershala Ali graced the red carpet in New York City, lending his star power to the premiere of his latest blockbuster, "Jurassic World Rebirth." Amidst the glamour, he also shed light on the much-anticipated status of his Marvel venture, "Blade." The vampire thriller has languished in developmental limbo for years, with two directors exiting the project despite Ali being attached since 2019. Further complicated by actors' and writers' strikes, alongside Disney's evolving studio strategies, "Blade" was ultimately scratched from the 2025 theatrical calendar entirely.

At the "Jurassic" premiere, Ali confided in The Hollywood Reporter about "Blade," stating, "I'm taking it one day at a time, giving it my all." He cited his upcoming film, "Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother," as a project that scratched his "stunt itch." However, he added, "I sincerely hope 'Blade' materializes; only time will tell, as I'm unsure of Marvel's current stance. Truthfully, I'm on the lookout for the next great role."

Regarding his involvement in the latest "Jurassic" installment, which also stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, Ali reflected that the highlight of working on such a colossal production was witnessing its completion. "Shooting these films is incredibly arduous due to their intricate shooting schedules; you might film one scene across three countries over four months," he explained. "As an actor, this isn't necessarily enjoyable because it's challenging to keep everything in perspective." He continued, "You must have faith that it will all come together seamlessly. Hence, the most rewarding aspect is completing it and seeing what director Gareth Edwards crafted in post-production. He did an extraordinary job."

"Jurassic World Rebirth" will hit theaters on July 2.
