For the fundraising gala themed "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," Tyla made a splashy entrance in an outfit that boasted a white pinstripe off-the-shoulder dress adorned with a lavish train. Complementing her stunning attire, the 23-year-old artist wore her golden locks in an elegant curly updo.
As for her beauty look? Makeup artist Pat McGrath revealed the inspiration behind it. "For Tyla's makeup, we channeled vintage Hollywood glamour—icons like Josephine Baker, Dorothy Dandridge, and Jean Harlow—with a contemporary twist," she stated. "The focal point was the sultry smoky eyes, created using warm nude and deep brown shades from Mothership I and XII." Pat further added, "We also emphasized the brows—arched, softened, and delicately toned to resonate with a fresh version of modern Hollywood."
This isn't the first time Tyla has wowed the Met Gala red carpet with her eye-catching looks. Last year, the "PUSH 2 START" singer elevated the "Garden of Time" theme to new heights when she had to be freed from her hourglass-inspired gown while navigating the Met steps. Moreover, her experimentation with the timepiece concept didn't end there. Tyla revealed during the event that designer Balmain and she aimed for the fabric to mirror the contents of an hourglass. "It's sand, basically, on material," Tyla explained to Live From E!: Met Gala, "because we wanted to embody 'sands of time' with the theme."
Her 2024 appearance at fashion's grandest night certainly hinted at her willingness to go all out this time as well. In fact, she admitted that her show-stopping hourglass moment required an extensive amount of preparation. "I've been up," she joked to Live From E! at the time. "Just know I've been up."
For Tyla, her musical success has opened doors to a whole new realm of style—one that encourages her to take even greater risks. "I've always liked what I've liked, but now that I have greater access to various options, I can experiment more," the singer shared with Fashionista in an October interview. "My style has always been about wearing things that aren't overly perfect. I adore a bit of messiness or something that's a little shocking."
