Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied Divorce

Published: Jun 21 2024

After a decade-long union, Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied, the actress and choreographer duo, have officially parted ways, confirming their divorce, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Academy Award-winning actress initiated the divorce proceedings last July, following their eleven-year marriage, and the legal separation was finalized in France last month, as initially reported by People magazine.

Their fateful encounter occurred on the set of the 2010 thriller "Black Swan," which catapulted Portman to Oscar glory for her outstanding performance. Millepied, who served as the film's choreographer, mentored Portman through the intricate ballet sequences that defined her role. Portman's triumph was doubly sweet as she even joked about their budding romance in her acceptance speech, quipping that Millepied, despite his on-screen dismissal of her character, was actually her biggest fan.

The then-pregnant actress gratefully acknowledged Millepied in her Oscar speech, declaring him the giver of her "most important role of my life." Their love story culminated in a romantic wedding ceremony on August 4, 2012. Together, they welcomed a son now 12 years old and a daughter, aged 7.

The announcement of their divorce comes on the heels of speculative rumors surrounding an alleged affair involving Millepied. Addressing the swirling gossip, Portman chose to remain dignified, telling Vanity Fair, "It's terrible, and I have no desire to contribute to it."

Meanwhile, Millepied continues to shine as a choreographer, helming the dance sequences for "Dune: Part Two." He also made his directorial debut with the 2022 musical drama "Carmen," starring Melissa Barrera and Paul Mescal. Portman, on the other hand, has been keeping busy with her own projects, recently starring in "May December" and receiving a Golden Globe nomination for her comedic role. She is currently filming Guy Ritchie's "Fountain of Youth" and is set to star in the upcoming limited TV series "Lady in the Lake," continuing to shine brightly on both the big and small screens.
