"Ultimately, I firmly believe that speaking up about issues close to your heart matters, regardless of your fame," expressed the 32-year-old, who is set to be feted as Woman of the Year at the prestigious 2025 Billboard Latin Women in Music event on May 1st.

Selena elaborated, "The discourse around mental health is indeed not for the faint-hearted, as you're baring your soul to the world. And believe me, a deluge of opinions will flood in, merely for having the courage to utter a word about it."

Elsewhere in the interview, the actress behind Emilia Perez shared her initial trepidation after deciding to open up about her personal journey. "It was daunting to be so vulnerable, and I never wanted anyone to perceive me as a victim," confessed the singer-turned-actress.

Selena emphasized that by sharing her own narrative, she might hold the key to "empowering others." "I'll embrace any negative feedback that comes with it, because I witness the broader impact of how conversations around mental health have transformed," added the vocalist.

Earlier, in October 2023, Selena hosted her inaugural Rare Impact Fund Benefit, an event aimed at raising funds for mental health organizations. Speaking at the gathering, the multifaceted artist revealed, "I grappled with the turmoil within my mind for a prolonged period." "At times, I felt utterly hopeless. And in 2020, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. And honestly, everything swiftly changed," she recounted.

In parallel, Selena also unleashed her poignant documentary titled "Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me," offering an intimate glimpse into her mental health journey.
