Teyana Taylor's beloved daughter, Rue Rose Taylor Shumpert, has just claimed the crown at the 2026 Actor Awards – the entire show, no less! While Teyana has been experiencing one unforgettable moment after another this awards season, her most cherished came on March 1st, outside L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium. As they walked the red carpet, her 5-year-old gave her a heartwarming shout-out during their interview with Live From E!'s Justin Sylvester. Or, as Teyana humorously referred to her "very expensive stylist," Rue made sure the train on her mother's custom Thom Browne gown was perfectly in place before the One Battle After Another star posed for photos.

Already marveling at how poised Rue was on the carpet, Teyana was brought to tears when her youngest child – she shares Rue and daughter Iman "Junie" Taylor Shumpert Jr., 10, with ex-husband Iman Shumpert – took the mic to deliver a very special message. "I wanted to say," Rue began, "this is such an honor for me being here, and I wanted to thank you guys for my mom and this wonderful day. And all of y'all outfits look very good. And I'm mostly saying this for my mom."
Teyana's tears were joined by yours as Rue added, "This is actually such an honor." Her mother replied, "This is such an honor to be here with you, baby." And then there was one more thing.
"And I hope," Rue continued, "when I grow up, I can get a trophy too." Her mother assured her, "You will, baby, you will get whatever you put your mind to." But Rue wanted more information on that prediction, wondering, "How do you know that?"
Teyana's answer wasn't "because I said so," but close. "Because a mother knows, OK?" she told Rue. "You are going to be everything – you're everything right now. And when you get older, you're going to collect every single trophy, because it's already yours and it's already written."
Rue still quibbled with her mother's logic, pointing out, "Mommy, if you win every time, that means you're going to win every day, even when I grow up and I get nominated." To which Teyana could only reply, "I love you." "I love you too," Rue said.
Standing up and blinking back tears, Teyana declared, "This is too much." Or just enough.
As if it wasn't already an evening to remember for Teyana, who is hoping to add another trophy or two to her shelf. Indeed, in addition to her solo nomination, she's also up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture alongside costars Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and more.
Teyana previously won Best Supporting Actress at the 2026 Golden Globes. As she dazzled onstage to accept the award in her custom black Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, she shared an emotional message for her fellow "Brown sisters and little Brown girls" watching the ceremony.
"Our softness is not a liability. Our death is not that," the actress said. "It's not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space."
The achievement wasn't lost on the "Gonna Love Me" singer, who reflected on the journey that eventually led her to gold. "Thank you @goldenglobes for seeing me, not just in this performance, but in the journey," she wrote on Instagram alongside a snap of herself holding her trophy. "I've been at this for 20 years, so this award doesn't only represent this role… it represents every season, every sacrifice, every yes, every no, and all the love and life I've poured into my work and into others along the way." She concluded, "Purpose doesn't rush. It arrives right on time."
