Josh Duhamel is now embracing a serene life away from the limelight. Indeed, the Ransom Canyon star has recently swapped the glittering allure of Hollywood for the invigorating breeze and picturesque lakes of Minnesota. In an interview with People published on August 10, Josh revealed, "I craft movies and TV shows, and I adore it, truly, from the depths of my heart. Yet, I felt an inexplicable urge to return to hands-on endeavors." He continued, "Mending, creating, and engaging in the mundane tasks we often overlook—that's what called to me."
"I'm fundamentally a man who yearns to stay grounded, reconnecting with the fundamentals, and honing the rudimentary skills vital in today's tech-driven world," he elaborated. "To provide for my family through these basic endeavors." Over a decade ago, the 52-year-old acquired a barren half-acre plot near Fargo, North Dakota. Since then, he has painstakingly constructed a rustic lakeside cabin, which he affectionately dubs his "doomsday sanctuary."
"It now feels complete, a haven where we can truly reside," Josh shared excitedly. "It's fully habitable, embodying the essence of simplicity." He added thoughtfully, "We've become so accustomed to luxuries and conveniences that we often overlook the beauty of basics. For me, this cabin is a chance to revert to those fundamentals, to savor the pure joys of life—family, friendship, and creating timeless memories."
When discussing his family, the Safe Haven actor, who shares an 18-month-old son, Shepherd, with his wife, Audra Mari, and an 11-year-old son, Axl, with his ex-wife, Fergie, expressed his delight in bonding with nature alongside his loved ones. "We're nestled deep within the woods, and it's sheer bliss," he enthused. "Bald eagles soar above, while otters playfully swim with their pups all around."
However, despite the magical allure of living amidst wildlife, it isn't devoid of challenges. Josh joked, "We're in a perpetual battle to keep mice out of our cabins. It's a relentless struggle—man versus nature at its finest."
