Pedro Pascal harbors a particular fondness for donning facial hair in his acting endeavors, and there's a compelling rationale behind it. During a recent appearance on LADbible's "Agree To Disagree" video series alongside his 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' co-star Vanessa Kirby, the duo was prompted to engage in a debate on whether mustaches exude more sex appeal than beards. It was at this juncture that the 'The Last of Us' star opened up about his screen presence preferences, influenced by his visage as the villainous Maxwell Lord in 'Wonder Woman 1984,' where he sported a clean-shaven look alongside Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot in 2020.
"I grow rather unruly facial hair," Pascal confessed, "but shaving it all off reveals a visage so unappealing that I strongly disagree with the clean-shaven version of myself." He continued, "In 'Wonder Woman 1984,' I was genuinely horrified by my appearance. While I adored the film, my own look left me so disturbed that I've only returned to a clean shave when absolutely necessary."
Although grateful for the opportunity to sport a beard in 'Fantastic Four' – despite facing some fan backlash who pointed out that Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic is beardless in Marvel Comics – Pascal admitted to being a team player. If producers and director Matt Shakman had "demanded a clean shave for 'Fantastic Four,' I would have obliged. Our looks in the film were a collaborative effort, a shared creation."
Starring alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn, the new 'Fantastic Four,' set against a retro-futuristic 1960s backdrop, chronicles the superhero quartet's quest to safeguard Earth from the voracious space deity Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). Balancing their heroic duties with the strength of their familial bonds, the film is poised to captivate audiences when it hits theaters on July 24.
