Amazon MGM Studios has scheduled the highly anticipated feature film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's psychological thriller novel, "Verity," for a captivating release on May 15, 2026. Starring a stellar ensemble cast comprising Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdoba, and Brady Wagner, this film promises to captivate audiences worldwide.
The strategic release date positions "Verity" as a counterbalance to the male-dominated blockbusters slated for that month, such as "The Mandalorian & Grogu" and "Avengers: Doomsday." Michael Showalter, renowned for his directorial prowess showcased in "The Eyes of Tammy Faye," will helm this cinematic endeavor. The script, penned by Nick Antosca, builds upon earlier drafts crafted by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and the duo of Will Honley and April Maguire.
"Verity" delves into the compelling narrative of Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired by Jeremy Crawford to finalize the remaining installments of a series authored by his enigmatic wife, Verity Crawford, portrayed with depth by Hathaway, has unfortunately been entangled in a mysterious mishap.. As Lowen delves deeper into her task, she discovers a hidden, unfinished manuscript that might unravel secrets from the family's tumultuous past.
The production is helmed by Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Showalter and Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions, Hathaway for Somewhere Pictures, Hoover for Heartbones Entertainment, and Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny, all serving as producers. Lauren Levine of Heartbones Entertainment takes on the role of executive producer.
Hoover's other novel, "It Ends With Us," adapted by Sony and starring Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Brandon Sklenar, became a summer box-office sensation despite the legal controversies it sparked. Meanwhile, another of Hoover's works, "Regretting You," is undergoing an indie adaptation featuring Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames.
Prior to being acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021, Hoover self-published "Verity" in 2018, which subsequently soared to become a "New York Times" bestseller. Showalter has previously directed Hathaway in Amazon MGM Studios' "The Idea of You," co-starring Nicholas Galitzine and based on Robinne Lee's novel of the same name. Semi-Formal Productions, under Showalter's banner, boasts a first-look deal with the studio, ensuring more thrilling collaborations in the future.
