Aubrey Plaza's call sheet is poised for a significant expansion, as she has embarked on a dual role as producer and lead actress in "The Heidi Fleiss Story." Plaza will bring to life the notorious "Hollywood madam" Heidi Fleiss, who made headlines in the early 1990s for allegedly running the world's largest high-end prostitution ring, entangling Hollywood elite, politicians, and other powerful figures in its web.
Marking the directorial debut of Leah Rachel, the creator of Netflix's "Chambers," this project hails from Pinky Promise, a production company co-founded by Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett. Rachel Sennott, an actress in demand and a Generation Z icon, has co-written the script alongside Rachel and Travis Jackson. Their gripping take on this tabloid saga delves into Fleiss's frenetic days leading up to her trial, as she navigates Los Angeles, desperate to blackmail and manipulate her connections to have the case dismissed, all with the assistance of an ambitious young writer named Jaclyn.
Production is gearing up to commence in Los Angeles in the near future, with Djinous Rowling currently casting key roles. Burgum and Durrett will serve as producers for Pinky Promise, while Plaza will produce through her own company, Evil Hag.
In addition to her role in "The Heidi Fleiss Story," Plaza will also star in Ethan Coen's upcoming film "Honey Don't," alongside Chris Evans and Margaret Qualley, as well as in "Animal Friends" from Legendary and Warner Bros. Her recent credits include the Emmy-nominated "Agatha All Along," Francis Ford Coppola's "Megalopolis," and the critically acclaimed 2024 Sundance film "My Old Ass." She will next appear in Zack Woods' directorial debut "The Accompanist," starring opposite Susan Sarandon. Plaza's Evil Hag banner has produced notable projects such as FX's "Little Demon," the independent feature "The Accompanist," and Prime Video's "Kevin."
In just five years, Pinky Promise has delivered award-winning and unforgettable independent films like Andrea Arnold's "Bird," Pamela Anderson's career-redefining "The Last Showgirl," "The Starling Girl," Nick Kroll's "I Don't Understand You," and Regina Hall's "Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul." Currently in production is "Wishful Thinking," a surreal romantic comedy starring Lewis Pullman and Maya Hawke, and they are soon to release Scarlett Johansson's directorial debut "Eleanor the Great," featuring June Squibb.
Aubrey Plaza is represented by CAA, MGMT Entertainment, and Schreck Rose.
